Snakes can have baths, but it's usually only if they are having a difficult shed. The water should be no deeper than the snakes girth (width at largest point) and should be MEASURED with a thermometer at 25-30*C. Also just a tip, try and write replies all in one post sometimes it's unavoidable, but it's just easier to read and follow. Good luck |

Brother look for the corn snake care guide. Handle for about 15 mins 4-5 times a week, but not if your snake is stressed, new in a home, or not feeding properly. And I wouldn't recommend handling 2 corns together. For many reasons.

hi, is it normal for corns to burrow? Because i went to look if my snakie was ok and he wasn't there i got (THE BIGGEST FRIGHT) of my life so i was searching frantically and i thought he had escaped!!!! Although i read somewhere that corns do burrow so it did cross my mind that he was there. Thank god he was just "under the ground" FEW!!! i was relieved!!! |

I would repeat what Oakey has suggested Fernando...go through the care sheet again (http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm) and also the 'Yr First Corn' link (http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133). These answer lots of the questions you are asking. Also use the search button in the top right hand corner of your screen to see if you can find the answer to your questions. If you cant then feel free to ask !
When you first get your corn you shouldnt handle it for more than 5 minutes unless it is showing signs of stress and then you must return it to its viv. You can then, very slowly, build up the handling time but I would advise against any handling over 30 mins and that is for an adult corn. I know how much you are enjoying it and want to have him out and around you, but you must look at it from his point of view not yours.
Corns love to burrow and it is scary when you come down and they have 'disappeared'! But at least now you know to check the substrate before you start to panic .
I know you are excited and often post a few comments in a row....you can edit your previous comment by clicking on the icon in the top bar (that looks like a pencil writing on paper) above your original comment and then you can add your new comment - hopefully that makes sense and this isnt another of my 'brain fog' moments ! This does not work if it is the opening comment of a new topic.

Please reply
Firstly Fernando, someone will reply when there is something to reply to and you also need to take into account the time difference between here and SA - think you are 2hrs ahead of us at the moment. We also have a lot of posts asking questions, so it does take time to get through it all...please just be patient.
Secondly - permit? Do you need one to own a snake in SA?
Thirdly - corn snakes do not need to be kept in a humid environment, in fact that can be very bad for their health and can lead to fungal growth in the viv, scale rot and respiratory infections. Just make sure you dont have any condesation in the viv and the substrate is dry, keep your water bowl at the cool end and move it to the warm end during shedding. It is during shedding that I mist my vivs occasionally and this is only done a very small bit in the morning, just to raise the humidity slightly. It may be worthwhile checking out humidity using the search button so you understand more about it.

Fernando, remember to contain your excitement . Try put all your questions into one post, and it'll make it easier for us to read.
