I hope when you got Eric you got as much info as possible....shedding history, feeding history etc. Start your own 'Snake Diary', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and silvesta poo !

So good to hear of someone doing their research before buying their snake. All too often we hear of people just walking into a shop and walking out with a snake without knowing the first thing about looking after it. You are definitely the sort of corn lover we like!!

Definitely agree with you about that shop being dodgy, but unfortunately too many pet shops are. They either dont have the specialist knowledge needed, are just after your money or just dont care ! At least you knew how important it was to have a thermostat so as soon as they said that you didnt need one you knew to walk out and never come back! Is strange that they were overfeeding cos usually keep them on a maintenance diet, which means feed them as little as possible to keep their overheads down. There is no way that adult corn should have been sold like that...it makes me so cross ! The biggest worry is that it was sold to someone who isnt like you, who knows nothing about snakes and will have no idea what to do if there is a problem. I do hope you have a shop near you that you feel you can trust...but remember to check everything you are told there with us .

We've already started the diary of feed, shed, poo, lol. Only thing we haven't done yet is weigh him. I have some digital scales, so should I put him in a bowl with some kitchen towel and weigh him in there? My scales tend to be more accurate with something with a base surface that doesn't hang over the side (as his feed RUB would) and would keep him more contained.

Very glad you have already started your snake diary, it really is helpful. I weigh my snakes in a shoe box with air holes in the lid. Put box on scales (with lid on), zero scales. Add snake and weigh. You could definitely try doing it in a bowl as he is only small. May be an idea to weigh bowl and a pillow case (or something similar but smaller), zero it...then put Eric in pillow case and in bowl and weigh. This will keep him calm and give him less chance to escape.

Hmmm, I'm already checking out all the other morphs as Eric is likely to become mine if I dont. I never had a dislike of snakes...... But now I luuurve Eric too, hehe!

This happens a lot unfortunately, which is why we all find solace on the forum with other snake lovers. But you would be surprised how people change their mind about snakes once they have actually seen one, seen it handled, touched it...just take it very slowly and gently with your collegue and I am sure she will come round, especially if your son's friendship with her is at stake!

Hahaha... that was my thinking, that I'd need something to put in the faun when Eric grows, or are we just making excuses for ourselves? Hmmm... I'm thinking Butter, Caramel, or Anery Ghost, what about you?

Anyway, they bore me with dogs, lol, like I told them "You still have to go out at night and walk your dogs in this awful weather, we can just sit in the warm and look how pretty the snake is!"
