Not to sound like I don't believe the length, but how are you measuring the snakes? Just best to check as I once thought one of mine was over 6ft and then it turns out he was just over 5ft :P I am terrible at sizes though lol!
I'd leave feeding until you go to the vets since you don't get your new heatmat and other stuff till friday :)
Not to make things confusing, cornsnakes are a type of ratsnake, if you pop a picture of your snake son the morph section of the forum I'm sure the morph master or someone will be able to tell you if they are a hybrid :) |
A very special super, duper thanks for K :3 |

I do hope you can get the other viv from the previous owner, although I think you might have a fight on your hands....he obviously didn't care about them .
Well done with the hides, and I'm pleased it won't be long before you get the new equipment. Definitely don't feed them til you have got the new heatmat and thermostat sorted.....and preferably them separated, but that is your decision. It isn't going to do them any harm waiting a bit before they are fed, and they're going to be going through a fair bit of disruption, with you needing to fit the new heatmat and probes, then the trip to the vet. Patience now is probably best.
I'm glad you managed to get some of the retained shed off. Hopefully you'll manage to get the rest off tonight.
One of my snakes is corn x rat and its head is slightly bigger than the pure corn, a different shape and there is a definite 'neck', which isn't as obvious with corns. With how long Robin is, it is a possibility.
Make sure you block the holes around the bulb....but no tape allowed in the viv!

yh the holes are blocked now . yeh everything should be sorted on friday , Im not sure about the other viv though , but ill work something out for next week or so . someone said becos of his length he couldnt be a full cornsnake but he is from a breeder and I spoke to not the last person but the person who ahd him before that, and she said , he is less than half his weight before , and it used to lay egg every month or so . hmm . i got kinda confused when they said that |

' he is less than half his weight before , and it used to lay egg every month or so' ........you aren't the only one confused!!! It sounds totally bizarre.
I'm glad you've got the holes blocked off, and not long now til you get the heatmat, stat, etc .
The reason Sta~ple is questioning his length is because, if you are getting that length from his shed skin then it is deceiving. The shed skin stretches a lot, so makes the snake seem longer than it is. I'll be interested to see what his proper length is and what the vet has to say, assuming the vet knows what he's talking about. Normally I'd say not to worry about getting them probed unless you were planning on breeding them, but because they are together it changes things. IF it comes back that they are different sexes then you need to move fast to sort out that other viv. Even a large RUB will do as a temporary home, which you can set up with its own heatmat, stat, etc, ready to use in the new viv when you get one. Quite a few people keep their snakes in RUBs permanently, so it'll be fine as a temporary measure.
How did you get on removing the last of the retained shed?

yh the retained skin is off, and no he was measured by his body . when he is fully stretched out long ways he is longer than my partner who is 6ft lol. I have measured him properly too . I was trying to sort a viv out last night , since Im also getting 2 new members of the family . 2 breeding cornsnakes . and 2 seperate vivs and they selling other viv too they have . so hopefully I can get all that . just need to get them to vets and get new access for my viv I have now . 3ft is okay for (no-name)now named Albion ( robin hoods sword ) thankyou all for your help and information . you have helped me alot , yh I was confused lastnite I spoke to the young girl who used to stay with her dad where the snake was 2times pervious and she said its a girl and laid eggs . but then her mother said males lay eggs too . i said hmmmm lol |

I'm glad the retained shed is off and even more glad that you are sorting out a new viv so you can separate them .
That's quite amazing, Robin being over 6' ....or is it Albion ? As far as I know that means he can't be full corn. But it doesn't matter what he is, he's beautiful....whichever one of them it is I'm talking about !
You really are jumping in at the deep end, getting 2 breeding corn snakes as well. I hope they're housed separately . Please don't think I'm doubting you, but make sure you do masses of research before you start to breed. There are risks involved, as well as it not being cheap, being time-consuming, and the problem of selling any hatchlings that survive. You will probably find this interesting if you are considering it - How to breed cornsnakes Just be sure you know what you're doing before you do it.

That's great to hear, and I'm really glad that you've got a friend who is a breeder and can be on hand to give you advice and support. I can't wait to see pics of your new 2 when you get them .
