Looks like an amel morph to me. Cornsnakes don't have different breeds, they have different morphs, which basically means different coloured snakes. Hets and hypos are going into more detail about the genetic makeup of the snake. I'm no good at explaining these things, I'll leave that to our experts on the subject!! |

Kind of helped there Herriot, thanks for that. So this would be a "amelanistic morph corn snake"? |

Ahh no problem slotty, I'm easily confused with the breeds and now morphs and whatnot lol. I'm new to reptiles, it will take me a while to get used to names and stuff, but I am more than willing to learn. |

You could say that but most of us just say amel or amelanistic. Like you wouldn't say boxer breed dog, you'd just say boxer dog. Hope that sounds ok, told you I'm no good at explaining these things! |

yup, an amel means that there is no black pigment in the snakes colouring. A 'natural' corn snake has red, black, yellow/orange colours - yours will not have the black, also you will notice the eyes are red :) he's very pretty :)

amelanistic = a(meaning lack of)-melanistic(meaning melanin black pigment) = lack of black pigment melanin.
a morph is just the 'paint job' of the cornsnakes caused by variation from normal genes - exactly the same as a black labrador, a yellow labrador and a chocolate labrador are all the same except for the colour. |

He/she is gorgeous. Don't worry about not knowing anything about the different colours/morphs. Before to long you will be almost an expert and have a long list of all the ones you want. Take a look at this website for a crash course http://iansvivarium.com/cornsnakemorphs.php |

Thanks for the explanations. Kind of makes a bit more sense now. I just need to learn about all the other different kinds now lol. And yes, he is gorgeous even though I say so myself, I am sure he will settle in fine, still trying to think of a name. |

I haven't fed him yet, only got him yesterday, and he was fed saturday, so I will try him on a pinky on friday/saturday depending on how he seems. I was told 1 pinky per week, although if he gets strikey after about 5 days then feed him, is that right? |
