i still researching and planning my corn. a friend mentioned that they can be loud during the night.

the only space i have is in my (& my wife's) bedroom. for the people keeping snakes in their bedroom, do they keep you awake or wake you up at all? do you hear them often? is it just rustling or do them bang on the glass!?!

The Snake-Keeper's Prayer:

From ghoulies and ghosties
And long slinky beasties going bump in the night,
May the good lord deliver me ...

I've had snakes in my bedroom for nearly a year now - right at the moment there's only one, my young royal. The rest are now downstairs. The worst I've had to contend with is cats batting on the glass, which sounds dreadfully bad practice but the snakes seem just as fascinated as the cats - when you tell the cat to stop, the snake hangs around as if to say, 'where's me mate gone?'(They are sedate middleaged cats, I might add.)

I've heard of other snake owners being woken by snakes trashing the viv, moving stuff about, falling with a crash off climbing branches, escaping and dropping on to people's heads ... I don't think I've heard so much as a rustle from mine.

Just for that, I'll probably be kept awake all night tonight by Shahi galumphing round his viv like a mad thing!

Hi , They do rustle through the substrate and when they do climb some times they fall and you hear a loud thud noise.

We have 4 vivs in our room at the moment, (they are usually in spare room, but we got visitors) & one of my royals shed over night, i heard, what i thought was slates moving, she has a piece of slate in her viv to form a hide, in the morning it was pushed to another place, but hey, they don't shed every day do they.

our 2 corns dont make a sound during the night... the royal however is the noisy one, the first few nights we had him he likeed to smack his head on the top of the rub lol hes stopped this now lol all he does now is burrow under his water bowl tipping it over and lodging it onto his large branch and somtimes u can hear when it dislodges and falls lmao, nothing major tho, u shouldnt hear anything over bearing lol

we have 8 vivs and 5 RUBs in the bedroom, my snakes are on newspaper and dazb's are on beech chippings, the paper is noisy if you have an active snake but i only really notice them being noisy when they're shedding
ocassionally we hear a thud as one falls off a branch/decor but this was much more frequent and entertaining when i had a royal (oh i DID laugh!! )
the one thing that DOES sometimes get to me is the power/heat lights on the stats..............dimmers and on/off stats are mildy less annoying than pulses!

I had one of mine in the bedroom and he was very quiet for the first few months. When we had that hot weather in May/June he started wedging his body against his viv furniture and pushing his head really hard against one of the vents. It made a really loud creaking sound followed by a bang as the furniture moved. It would go on all night and kept me awake for three weeks until I'd had enough and moved him out. I don't know if he still does it or if it was just because of the hot weather.

All of my five are in my room and I love it. It's quite relaxing listening to them go about there business.

As I'm a student and off at the moment I sat up til 4 the other morning watching my Royal as she was so active that night :)
