Most of you know Henry has been egg bound. I first took her to the vets on thursday last week where a few things were tried. Anyway the last option was surgery.
It took me a week to decide if I should put her through it or not, if it was fair, ethical etc. I finaly decided today that she should have the op, a very hard decision to make beleive me.
The op is removal of the eggs and spaying. Im not sure if they will take them all out or just the larger few. I dropped her off at the vets at 7pm today and shes having the op tomorrow morning.

OMG that's loads more than i expected! having said that when we do estimates at work we try to give a worst-case figure so people are relieved when it's (usually) less. let me know if i can help in any way hun x |

my mate had this problem with one of his snakes about 10-15 years ago! he was telling me about this today! he said at that time not alot of people kept snakes and the vet didn't know much about them but he operated on the snake. it was successful!!! hope yours makes it through okay. shame about the cost of it all but i guess i'd pay that much if it meant potentially saving my snakes life |

Thats not a bad idea, how many members to this site?
couple of quid each would go a way towards it - I'd be happy to chip in, I'm sure many others would too! |

I will, I will probably pick her up tomorrow afternoon.
Lee, from what I hear, most insurance policies wont cover breeding broblems including egg binding. However, they may cover egg binding if the snake hasnt been bred from, im not sure. |

Ok, had the call from the vet.
The good news is all the eggs are out, she had an x-ray to make sure there were 5 before hand and she came round very well after the anaesthetic. Because she came round so well she was tube fed.
The bad news is her oviduct had developed an infection and part of it had to be removed. She will need an antibiotic injection every 3 days (8 shots in total).
One thing I didnt know was when putting in the stiches, the skin had to be turned out slighly so it is in contact with the skin on the other side of the opening. it wont heal if its scale to skin.
Oh, and the wound is about 3' long on her left side an inch or two behind her vent.
I will be picking her up tomorrow afternoon. |
