Hi All,

My 3 year old corn laid her first eggs 4 days ago. They were found, with her under, her waterbowl, which was a surprise.
The eggs look very white but have a slight irregular shape. Is this due to the weight of the bowl they were found beneith or saggy and unfertile?

They all look fertile, but slightly dehydrated. If you place some moist sphagnum moss or kitchen towel over the top of them they should plump up.

What temps are you incubating them at, and what sort of incubation set up do you have?

The egg tub will need a lid to help keep the humidity in- it needs to be at around 90-100%. Temps between 27.5-28.5 are ideal.

Also, when you found the eggs, did you rotate them or turn them in any way?

Thanks for the info. I've got a Hovabotor boutgh Online. Temp is a constant 28'c. I assume i do not need a lid on them as the hovabator is sealed itself (apart from the air hole). I'll put some kitched towel over the top of them now. How often do need to moisten the vermiculite?

try misting, thats the only other thing I can think of. Make sure you do it with warm water that matches their temperature, or they'll get thermo-shock (if that's the proper word, and not a made-up-by-me version!)

Thermal shock! Are you measuring the humidity inside the incubator or inside your egg tub?
If the humidity is not holding inside the egg tub then there are too many air holes, at a maximum you want 2, really small 1 at either end, but not on the lid. Personally i use sealed tubs which i open maybe once a week to allow and air swap. If the egg tub is sealed then the humidity cannot drop, there is nowhere for the moisture to go, so you see it dripping off the lid.
If you have a mister specifically for the eggs, put it in the incubator also, that way its up to the same temp as the eggs, and they wont 'notice' being sprayed. They will plump up quite quickly once the humidity is high enough.

i dont know whats the deal with the hovabator, i remember someone using it unsealed, but i think its probably better for it to be sealed.
Does the hovabator control the humidity? if it does surely theres a way of getting it back up!?

4 eggs have turned yellow :( 3 are stuck to the main cluster. Should I remove these or not. I've read somewhere that dental floss is the best thing to use.

If they are stuck to the other eggs then you may end up ripping them!
