Its absolutely fine, maybe give it a rinse first though, get some dust out.
It does no harm.

This moss is usually used damp to help with a problem shedder and is put in once the snake has gone 'blue'. Is this why you are wanting to use it?

In my search on sphagnum moss I found the advice to rinse it in boiling water, leave the moss to cool and then squeeze out all the excess water. Depending on what hide/container the moss is in, it can stay damp for a good few days, but if you do need to dampen it again then a little water will be fine, just be sure to give it a good squeeze again.
