Am so glad she has been seen by the vet and given the injections. Lets just hope and pray that they do what is necessary for her to be able to lay the rest of the eggs naturally.

Stay positive Rach, although I know that is easy to type and very hard to do.

No luck overnight, wating for a call back from the vets.

I am concerned because I can feel an egg high up the body, about a foot away from all the others, so it obviously hasn't moved down with all the others- so surgery looks like the best option. Unfortunately the vet at the surgery isn't willing to operate due to lack of experience, so will have to refer her, most likely to Edinburgh. This is a 3-4 hour drive away from us, which will be incredibly stressful for her.

Also, mum and dad are unwilling to fork out for an op, understandable considering they spent £150 on her yesterday and nothing has come of it. What a nightmare.

I don't mean to p*ss on you already struggling bbq, but have you had a quote for the op to remove them? I had one last year, £350. I really would see about venting first.

Right, the vet has spoken to another vet in Falkirk, who has advised that I leave her for another 7-10 days with no venting or surgery. Unfortunately the vet I use is the ONLY rep vet in the area, and won't drain the egg. She and the other vet strongly believe that she will pass them normally in her own time.

She has had another hormone injection and a calcium jab, so fingers crossed that she will now get them out soon.

I do not feel confident about attempting to massage the eggs out, she is solid from her tail up and the eggs are squashed very close together, almost in a solid mass. She goes very tense when you touch her, and I just don't want to risk rupturing something.

I have quite extensive veterinary experience with mammals lol, but not snakes, given the option I would be willing to vent the egg myself, but of course that isn't an option.

Hmmm.

You are right in not trying to massage the eggs out, you could cause a lot of damage. Like Mike, I dont want to worry you, or say aything to make it worse, but in my experience its either they lay them fine, or they cant lay them. I have never heared any other accounts of snakes being in the middle.

See, I've been getting abuse on the dark side because apparently I shouldn't have taken her to the vets full stop, and now she will die. I can't win! If I did nothing and she died then that would be neglectful. If she dies after all the vets trips I have stressed her out!! I don't know what to do!!

Oh SB you must be feeling rotten and don't know where to turn. This is an awful situation and getting conflicting advise doesn't help. I'm afraid I cannot help but I can hold you in my thoughts and prayers. Remember we are all here for you, whatever the outcome. We all know that you are doing your very best for Mushu and that is all she can ask for.

Rach, i'll be honest with you. You have the wrong end of the stick with regards to your thread on the other forum, maybe re read it!
I do think you are between a rock and a hard place, it doesnt sound like your vet is very experienced at all, venting is a simple op!
Maybe phone around a few other vets and speak to them and see what they say.
The vet i use is not a reptile specialist, he does mostly rats and dogs and cats, but, he is also a very experienced vet, and will research anything i give him and tell me what he has found out and thinks, and i trust him. Someone doesnt have to be experienced with Reptiles to be a good and capable vet, it just takes the knowledge, which is quite easily gained. Its a shame your so far away, i would help if i could.
Btw, you havent been slated, attacked, or abused on the other thread, its just a case of misreading what was said.

Mike

Mike, there are no other vets- the only other one with enough experience is the one that has told me to leave her! No other vets in the area will treat reptiles for legal reasons.

What annoyed me about the other thread is the 2 users making out that my taking her to the vets to be treated I have pretty much signed her death warrant.

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to write!! It's not helpful to be told you have done wrong after you have done it.

Could't you try and find a another vet? They may not be as close to you but I'm sure if you keep trying to find one that is more helpful, you will come across one that is actually of use.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3
