Mushu is egg bound, only 3 eggs have been layed and she seems to be uncomfortable- what can I do?

When did it start to lay? Are the three eggs already laid fertile (white, not yellow)?

Yes they appear fertile, 1 is very small, other 2 look a normal size but all are white.

She had laid 1 at 8 this morning, just got home and there are 3.

Dont worry too much at the moment, though take her to the vets if they havent all been passed within 24 hrs. If you want me to talk you through the differant things a vet will offer I can do later this evening.

Yep, sound advice, wait the 24 hours then book yourself an appointment. You can try a warm bath, see if that loosens her up. She might just be tired and wants a break, its exhausting work for her!
The vet will offer 2 jabs, a calcium boost and a hormone to induce her, if that doesn't work, she can have another hormone jab, but from then on I think surgery will be suggested, I suggest you sit down before asking the cost!
It will also leave her sterile.
Unfortunately egg bound rarely works out well, if you do get away without surgery then don't breed her again, it maybe a trait.

Main thing to remember, don't do anything until 24 hours have passed, don't touch her, or the eggs, don't move her or disturb her, could make it worse!

Generaly, eggs are drianed by a needle (Ovocentesis) so they can be passed before resorting to using mammal hormones (though the eggs will be too solid to drain after 2-3 days).

I forgot about the draining method, its always worth a go, he will prob only deflate the first egg, let the others pass naturally.

I was wondering what was going on Rach and I do hope the situation has changed by now. At least you have got great advice on here as to what to do and when to do it.

Am thinking of you....as always.

Mushu is still not having any luck, the worrying thing is that she doesn't appear to be trying at all, just checked on her and she is lying with most of her body out of the box and her head just lying on the substrate.

Will ring the vets I think.

Right, vet did x-rays and said there is between 6 and 9 eggs still there, but they are so squished up there may be less/more. The one right by the vent is teeny, third one back is too big, and all the others are somewhere in between. She is a little concerned by all the size differences, but nothing we can do about that now!!

She has had oxycontin (sp?) and summat else, can't remember what, like a muscle relaxant, and said to leave it till 2pm tomorrow before ringing to update her.

I asked about venting the little egg, and she said the problem is that they could vent that one and chances are the big one could then cause issues, and its too far back to do anything about. If it comes to surgery then she will need to be referred, probably to the **** in Edinburgh, which is hours away from me!!! Her best chances are trying to get them out herself, so please keep your fingers and toes crossed everyone!!!

Thats very crap, hopefully she will sort them out her self and she wont need any surgery. Venting the little egg wont help too much, its the big one thats causing the blockage, if you can get that one vented then she might just carry on without any problems.
