My stat for Reggies tank broke this morning. Temps have dropped to 19.8 degrees, he seems to have digested his last feed fully, he was last fed saturday at around 7PM.
I am either going to have to send the stat back to 888 reptiles or microclimate, either way he could be without a stat for a couple of weeks. do you think he will be ok during the mean time? Is there anything i could do to help raise the temps? Putting the heating on in my room wouldnt help as at the moment i have no door as we had a bit of a dispute a couple of weeks ago lol.
Casper is due for a tank change, and i was thinking maybe i could mix it around so that caspers warm side and reggies warm side are next to each other, as their tanks are next to each other and then maybe i could share caspers heat mat with reggies tank, its a 7x11 heat mat, but because of the shape of the fauns im unsure wether this will work.
So has anybody got any other ideas, other than plugging reggies heat mat in and regulating it myself lol. |

You miss understood, i have turned my heat mat off. I know the dangers of an unstatted mat. |

I would contact the retailer. They may be able to arrange an exchange via post or (iv done this one before with another firm) buy a new one and when they receive yours back refund the payment. Failing that its gonna be a borrow off someone local till its sorted. The usual hot water bottles etc are fine for a day but only a temp fix. |

I have emailed 888 reptiles but they havn't got back to me yet. Only thing is im not sure wether i still have the invoice
Will try contacting microclimate tommorow. The temps is currently at 21.3 and has been for a good few hours, but will no doubt drop during the night. |

Quick question, is it definitely the stat? Have you tested the heatmat by plugging into the socket directly and seeing if it warms up?
If it's definitely the stat, I'm assuming you know a definite because the lights aren't coming on; have you checked the fuse?

I know its the stat because i felt it when it broke. I was just adjusting reggies tank after changing out the temps where a little high so i was just turning it down a bit and as i turned it something inside snapped and now the little dial which you adjust the temps with just spins and the light dosn't come on so dosnt supply power to the heat mat. |

Ah, the pot connection has gone, I see your issue now. Have a good dig for the receipt/box and depending on how long ago it was, decent shops will do a swap and they'll send the old one back. It'll be quicker than a few weeks as well. failing that, buy another and swap them in the box and bring it back for a refund because it's broken. |

I had my two girls on one mat and stat for a while when my stat packed up. I just kept a close eye on temps and they were fine. so It could work if things becme very desperate. But the two fauns i had were not much diffrent in size. |

The pot (Potentiometer)may be fine. More often than not the pot will be covered by a nicer looking plastic cover. If you cant find a proof of purchase its well worth a look (NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAINS!) to see if they have come apart or the plastic part has worn and slid around the pot. |

If you ordered off 888 have you tried checking back over your emails to find the original order confirmation? That should have the details you need to arrange returning it.
I had an issue with a Microclimate I ordered...it did not do what I expected it to do!!! In that it allowed the temp to drop by about 5 degrees before kciking back in. I was very unhappy () and rang 888 straight away. They told me to send it back and they would refund the money, and at the same time I ordered a Habistat pulse that has been working perfectly since it arrived 2 days later.
I think the situation is serious enough that you need to get a new stat as soon as possible, even if it means spending money now that you may not get refunded (if they feel you have broken it then I guess they may argue against it being their problem, same with microclimate). But you know how important it is to have the temps right so it must be worth it for Reggie's sake.
The problem is that if you do as Rik has suggested and take it apart then you lose all chances of returning it.
This is 888 contact number (as you are getting no response to your emails) - 01327 262888.

Thanks Kellogg. I'm not too fond off the on/off stats myself to be honest and if i have to buy a new stat for Reggie i will most likely get a pulse stat.
The main question was what can i do to help raise the temp a bit. I turned the heat mat on for a bit before i went to bed, let it rise to 30 degrees and then put a towel around it, it was at 19 degrees when i woke up and rises to around 21 during the day time. |

Short of leaving the mat on unstatted, the only thing to do is go buy another and get a refund for the broken one. The longer you leave it the more stressed snakey will get with the radical temperature fluctuations. |

You won't get a response from 888 via email, as I ask them why they never respond and they said they simply don't have the time and that is it is easier to phone. I collected a scorp from them and they are only a dinky little place with a few peeps who work there. I think it's about 4 or 5, possibly a family run company as well. The daughter is the one normally on the phone, I think it's the dad who is the local driver, a brother who is in the warehouse and someone else (mum) in the office as well. I could be wrong, but that's what it looked like to me. |

I got a reply from the email and the issue was sorted a while ago. Thanks anyway though.
