I came home thursday eve to find my vivs had collapsed. 3 snakes accounted for 1 snow corn missing. looked every where, left viv on ground level in case he found his way home. what do you think my chances are of him turning up?

not very that's the problem. He's about 2 1/2 feet but not very fat. I'm really sad, he's been a difficult feeder kept re gurging and he was just starting to do really well :(

That is awful trio! What happened?? So glad you have found 3 of them but sorry your snow is missing.

Definitely try the bottle trap. Dont leave a mouse in a bottle trap for more than 24hrs...throw it away. Wait a few days and then try again. Try turning down all the heating in the house except for the room he is hopefully in. You could also put his heat mat on the floor, covered in a towel, in a corner or surrounded by pillows or with his hide on it....he will search for the extra heat. It means you should also check all the places in the house that emit heat, like behind the tv, the fridge, any hot pipes or boilers etc. One member's snake was found by his grandfather when he picked a towel out of the airing cupboard. You need to look high and low as they are amazing climbers, and look into places you dont think he could ever get to...any place he can squeeze his head into his body will follow. Another member found her snake in a box file on a shelf.

You need to put out a waterbowl as a snake can go a long time without food but needs water. It also means that you can see if the water level is dropping and therefore prove that he is in that room.

Put flour in the doorway so that you can see if there are any slither marks through it at any point. It proves whether he is moving around.

You can try sitting up through the night and put something like crunched up foil or wrapping paper around the edges of the room. This mean when the snake moves around and will keep to the sides you might hear the movement.

Please dont give up hope. As you have gathered a few of our members have lost snakes, some have been found immediately and others have taken weeks to turn up. One even showed up a month later sliding in the back door looking very healthy (the owner had wondered why her frog population was dwindling!).

I am sure others will also offer more advice and help....you will find him!

xxx

look everywhere unusual,
try the bottle traps and see what happens and another thing is to put a heatmat on the floor with a hide or towel or something similar on it so that if he does find it he has somewhere to hide
fingers crossed..but how did it collapse?

Thanks for all your suggestions. There's still no sign. I've checked all the likely places and the unlikely ones.
In response to your question hawkeye the table i thought to be sturdy and stable wasn't. It gave way and the rest is history.

Ok, understood. If you need to restore same table but this time with the appropriate bracing etc., let us know. Some of us here know how to, and perhaps one of The Boys With The Saws here wouldn't mind giving instructions including pics.

P.S. Lee, yeah not funny to lose a snake, but you are now summoned to wipe the coffee I spluttered all over the keyboard when I saw your response.

Thanks for all your words of support. Still no sign of the offending snake. I'll try another bottle trap at the weekend. I've left some water down and the viv is still open on the floor warm and inviting. I'm just a bit worried with how cold it's getting now, I keep hoping to find him curled up under a radiator somewhere.

It's probably better that it's colder rather than warmer while he's missing, so don't worry about that, if I were you I'd be more concerned about the possibility that snakey might give himself a burn on a hot radiator . Any chance or rad covers?

With British gas prices the rads are lucky if they get warm let alone hot! joking apart, point taken, will look into it.
