I usually praise this shop no end. But today, I was appauled.

Besides the matstat 100w for £30, for the 300w Habistat one.. £45
I didn't need a stat anyway,
I saw a 6x11" heatmat ~ £17.99
A LARGE FAUNARIUM STARTER KIT, ONE HIDE, NO STAT £45.

Beardies, about 8 in a 2ft viv, (babies ofc) for £20 each.
£100 for the shop 20ft rectic

YET £135 FOR AN AMEL, CARO, ANERY CORN!!

So when buying Minnie (R.I.P You are in a better place - snakey stomach) I questioned her, how come your kit and livestock, are at stupid prices? I've seen anery corns at £20..

"Oh, it depends when, who, we buy them off, and we need to make a profit"
"Fair enough, but how much profit - £120?"
"and also, why is a thermostat over priced by a tenner?"
"again, its our suppliers who we buy it off".

Well, I am NEVER buying livestock or equipment off them. Rip off, yet the animals are high quality healthy, bright and alert in clean vivariums. I shan't knock that. yet when i did mention why hasnt the starter kit go 2 hides and a stat 'they aren't essential'
I saved walking out of the shop at that point.

The staff need to wise up..

Rant over.

edit,,shop name removed

oh hillzi lol *hugs* chill hun

the priorities are right - the health and care of their stock......... if people don't like the prices they can always vote with their feet/wallets and go elsewhere i suppose.

BUT the starter kit with 1 hide and no stat - quite commonplace unfortunately but definitely not right. would be interesting to hear what advice they give out to noobs..........

I have one pet shop near me, and it smells, it keeps snakes in small ice cream looking tubs on the top shelf where as the other animals are in vivs in tubs, it smells of waste, their livestock should be called dead stock, I think the owner is getting too old... his baby beardies were well priced at £35 each bright and healthy and came straight up to you when you went near them but his normal corns were £150!!!
my FAB pet shop (sussex pet store, squires, Cheals in Crawley) has a fab live and frozen stock selection, the animals are so well looked after and they hate parting with them!
their equipment is average priced but you know they will help you if you need :)
they give you caresheets with every animal, and specific breed too :)

That seems alot. I just got my corn last wednesday - and snake and starter kit, feeding box and tongs cost me £69!

The starter kit was a plastic vivarium, heat pad, substrate, water bowl, thermometer and hide - although the nice man broke a piece of bark off a larger hide for sale and added that too for no extra cost so I got 2 hides, because he said they should have one at each end. All of this was £34.

The carolina corns are usually £35 but were on offer for £29 as they had had a lot of them in. They had a beautiful butter corn - he was the most expensive of the hatchlings at £65. The bigger corns were between £40 & £70. Pinkies cost 50p each.

The guys there clearly look after all the animals very well and know their stuff. Prestwoods on the A449 in Stourton (near Stourbridge) come highly recommended - if any of you are from around there.

1.0.0 - Carolina corn - Fluffy
0.1.0 - Pastel/Ghost motley corn - Smooch
1.0.0 - Anerythristic corn - Noodle
0.1.0 - Amelanistic corn - still to be named

Those heatmats 6" x 11" are well overpriced , usually under a £10 .
I buy 47" x 6" for £18.99 thats a huge difference in size .

Maybe they have been selling more than usual of reptile gear , thats when shops start hiking the price making a nice profit . They seem to forget people can sit in a chair and order online for way less inc p&p .

My local sells hatchlings for around £45 I think .

Always nice to wander around a shop though , if not to buy then get some idea of what you need :)

One last jump , that's all we have to take Holth .
Wearily the old queen gathered heself to spring ;
Moreta gratefully began her litany .
Black , blacker , blackest -
They went between .

Unfortunately this is quite common place, on the starter kit subject. When I bought Lucien from a local shop, the set they sold with their corn snakes had a heat mat that covered most of the tank and a heatlamp. No stats and 1 dial type thermometer.

Hi Miss Jelly.... Prestwood is known as Petzone, so if anyone should want to look up directions, its easier if you just put petzone in the search engine... agree with you that they are fairly ok iro how they keep their stock, and prices are realistic, Their staff all specialise in different area's so there is nearly always one that can give you advice on any specific type of animal/fish etc.

They do quite a good trade in corns from there, and often have them on sale price... J
