ok guys im building an 8 foot viv in a few weeks time
any way at the min i have both over head and heat matt in a 3 foot viv
what is the best set up for both for an 8 foot viv by 1.5 foot by 1.5 foot e.g bulb size in watt's i see you can go upto 250 watt, and how many would i need 1 or 2 ? heat matt im thinking of 11 x 29 inches x2
and whats the best way to go for lighting ? mine is a snowcorn with red eyes so i understand that uv light strips are no good for em because when they come on they flash .something i have learnt from here
whats your advise on this my snake is 4 foot long so it needs a bigger house. an 8 foot 1 will give it all the room in the world
i wont be able to reply till tomorrow afternoon guys many thx fot your help

i'd put a partition down the middle and have 2x4ft vivs. Then get another snake :D |

Corn Snakes don't like to much space it causes stress (and could stop eating) 8 foot is ideal for say a fully grown common boa or a Burmese python! My advice build a 3x1 viv and it should be fine in there for most of it's life (depending on how big it grows) |

I'd agree with Durbinator, split it in to 2 4ft vivs. 8ft is way too much space for a Corn Snake. It sounds silly i know and your probably just really keen to give snakey some enrichment but there are better ways to do it.

yep, 8ft is way excessive!! 4'x2'x2' is more than adequate for an adult corn.......... |

I agree, 8 feet is total overkill. Go on the old rule that your snake should be able to stretch out along a long and short side, so if your snake is four feet, a 3x1 foot viv should should do for now. my big viv is about 4 feet and its way more than is needed for my man. |

silly question why would a 4 foot snake get stressed in a 8 foot viv?? in the wild they musy travel a hell of a lot more than 8 foot in a day food water and so on im just Curious
when i have my snake out i some times let roam around the rood on it's own for an hour so does she get stressed when i do that. like i said silly question . |

It's just the enclosed feeling that makes them feel secure- in the wild they wouldn't be out and about that much as they would hide most of the day from predators and only move around at night when they are hungry and have to.
They normal live in corn fields and barns too which would give them plenty of opportunity to hide.
Exercising in the house is fine as long as you don't leave them out for too long. |

Mine used to have an almost 5ft viv that was 3 co-habiting. They are now in 4ft and i see much more of them and they are feeding better too. Beardies have the big stack now. |
