She seems to be about the sme - it's very hard for me to monitor howthe wound is doing as it's covered in scales and stitches. She mostly sticks to the hot side of her temporary rub now, but I guess that's only natural when she's not feeling well.

I'll keep you guys posted as soon as anything changes. So far, she just hates the antibiotics shots (starts wriggling like crazy), so I do feel quite sorry for her :(

On a completely unrelated sidenote - I've been having some discussions on other cornsnake related forums, and I just wanted to say I'm extremely grateful for the atmosphere here. People may disagree with one another, but we always stay respectful. When someone (inadvertently) crosses a line, the mods are there to keep things friendly. I'd like to thank everyone for making this my favourite corn snake forum <3

Awww it's normal for her to keep in the warm - it will help her heal more quickly. Hope the antibiotic shots finish soon so she can heal in peace, it must be hard for you having to treat her. I love this forum too!!

Isoldael, that sounds like good news, if there was something wrong with the wound, you'd see the evidence on the paper towels. I can fully appreciate, how you feel with the antibiotics. I only have to worm my snake, and that's bad enough, she hates me now, and fights like hell, if I try to pull her out, which is heartbreaking. But it has to be done.

I love the way this forum is, too. Not only it's very informative, and has helped me out many times, but the people on here are so supportive, when something goes wrong. I really appreciate this myself, as I always tend to imagine the worst outcome. So thanks, everyone, for being so nice.

You have no idea. I managed to stay somewhat composed the entire day, trying to keep it together to make sure she got the best possible care and making sure I caught everything the vet said. When I got home and received the phonecall, everything that was left of my composure vanished and I just burst into tears. I have her on my desk at all times now (in her rub, on her heat mat) so I can keep a close eye on her most of the day. With some luck, she'll feel a lot better soon (especially when the antibiotics treatments are over)

Isoldael - you have done so well to make it so far without bursting into tears, I would have done it a lot sooner than you did.

I can only speak for me, but thank you for keeping us in the loop as to how she is, so thank you.

With Saphira keeping on the warm side, she will heal quicker, that is for sure (I must admit, after seeing the pictures and reading the thread, I read up about it in a couple of books I have about corn snakes). She is probably going to get very itchy round the wound site but that is a good thing, it means that she is healing well.

You can leave your composure "at the door" here - nobody will mind you losing your composure one little bit, it is only to be expected.

*hugs* for you and Saphira

Isoldael, you've done and are doing a great job. Saphira is a lucky girl to have you as her owner - I bet you, there are many people out there, especially some large breeders, that would have just PTS'ed a snake in that situation, and said, oh well, she died egg bound.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and Saphira, hope she gets better soon.

Saphira shed last night! I've been sleeping in the attic (where my snakes are) since I wanted to be able to act fast if anything went wrong, and the sound of her shedding actually woke me up. She had quite some issues shedding (gave her a piece of wood to make it easier) and it came off in about 300 pieces, but most of it is off now. The only part where some of the shed is left is underneath the stitches - there's no way to remove that without putting actual pressure on the stitches.

Since the shed, Saphira has been a LOT more active than before her shed and is a lot more like her old usual self. I fed her another mouse today, and although she was a little reluctant to take it at first, once she made up her mind she gobbled it down like she hadn't eaten in months.

There was one more surprise after the shed today - she now has 3 white scales on her back. It doesn't look like the scales are damaged or anything, it just looks like the pigment is gone. On the left side of the picture (I'll take a close-up later today):

Update: Just took Saphira out to take some new pictures - the scales have actually changed since this morning and look very dry and weird now. Will try to find out what it is tonight. I already have a follow-up appointment with the vet tomorrow (over the phone), so I'll be able to ask her opinion then as well.
