Woohoo!! She's looking great Fi :D
That pink looks a good size for her too, I wouldn't want to go any bigger than that for a while yet to be honest. Doubles will be fine. If I followed the Munson plan then Ember should be on large mice by now following on from double smalls a while back - she is still on single smalls and I'm perfectly happy that they are still plenty for her as she is such a slender snake and wouldn't manage a medium yet! I know it can be frustrating as you keep wanting them to get up to the next size - my little housie is on single pinks still and 20g (and he's 9 months lol) and I have given up expecting him to go up a size any time soon, despite him actually being quite long at 48cm lol. |

Thank you so much smart bunny
I am definitely going to keep her on double pinkies for now as she is just so long and slender - I am hoping that is the best way of getting nutrition into her. Fingers crossed as we are going for a 6 day interval on Monday. If I could keep her on that for a while, I would be over the moon. I know she is coming up to the fuzzie weight (according to Munson) but she is very long and lean, so I am going with the Cathy plan, assisted by you all! There is no way she could cope with a fuzzie given her girth even though her weight says otherwise. As I have said before, I don't care how I get it into her, I just want to get her food into her in a way that is appropriate to her size and won't set her back.
Managed to nail the better half's feet to the ground for a couple of minutes before too, and he took this one for me. It is just a quick video of Cathy after she had been out of the viv for a while and I was just about to pop her back in - the elusive young lady herself in *proper* light!

She is so little, but adorable. I know she is a snow but going by the picture in your signature i expected more pink :) Not a disapointment though. Gorgeous ^^ |

She is little, but very long! I know what you mean about the pink - the pic in my sig was taken when I first got her and she has shed twice with me now so each time her colour is changing very subtly, but she is definitely getting lighter for sure.
She is already starting to get very light yellow spots on her cheeks too, which when I look at pictures of adult snows can be quite prominent.
She is more the colour of my skin than anything else - pink she most definitely isn't anymore! |

Adult snows are loverly with the subtle colours. Already our Abbey has very dominant dark yellow stripes and patches on her neck! But we believe she is a bubblegum snow as she has a lot of green in her too. Snow corns seem to be a very popular morph i find! With the exception of one or two evey snake owne i personally know owns a snow :P |

You don't know how brilliant that was to watch Fi, to actually SEE Cathy . Loved the bit after she'd eaten the first pinkie and flexed her jaw a couple of times and then gave that yawn !! I'm in total agreement with Smartbunny about keeping her on the double pinkies. She will get to a point where she can take fuzzies but it really doesn't matter how long it takes. Miss Earnshaw works on her own schedule .
And to see her being handled by you, such a beautiful little thing .

Hayley I adore the subtle coulours that come out with snows. I have to be honest, with Cathy being my first corn, I didn't go into it wanting a specific morph, she just stole my heart when I went to see her before I got her and I find I really am drawn to the lighter morphs, but I think each and every one of them are gorgeous. I love the individuality you find in each one with their markings
Kellog, am glad you enjoyed the videos. I had been sat here bemoaning the fact that Photobucket wouldn't take the one of her eating until I remembered....... I had a YouTube account
I know the lighting is really poor on the first one, but I wanted you to see the yawn on the first one - as soon as she did it I thought of you telling me about it!
You have seen a picture of her stretched out on my arm but I thought a little vid of her in the scales as it were wouldn't go amiss. She still is very tiny in some respects, but as docile as a very docile puppy dog isn't she?
Absolutely going to keep her on double pinks still, would love to see a little weight go round her skinny neck for sure! She looks like a newborn there doesn't she? I quite like the second one as it shows just how dainty and docile she can be!
Hope your tribe are keeping well, has Silvi eaten yet?

You aren't wrong Hayley - and at the grand old age of 39, I STILL have freckles! My Mum fibbed to me, she promised I would grow out of them but I love them now, wouldn't be without them.
I just love how all the morphs have something different about them - I was thinking about an anery for my next acquisition at first, but there are so many pretty normals and snows out there, that is where I am headed in time |

I got the viv home and my better half has put it together but picspam will have to wait as.........
Cathy ate bold as you like off the tongs with a 6 day gap - I am so proud of her
My other half saw Cathy strike for the first time (I have seen it happen before)and he physically jumped up! I have noticed that since she has deigned to let me watch her eat and feed off the tongs she has quite the routine for eating her double pinkies. She will take the first one straight off the bat (once they have defrosted, I pop them by one of her ventilation holes to get her attention). I go in with pinkie on tongs and she will come for it with a little strike. Once that one is down is where the funny business starts. She will sniff and taste the second one from one end to the other and back down again before she will eat it
She made very quick work of that one too, once it had passed "quality control". So, she is now happily digesting away in her favourite hide.
On Thursday morning I will take some pictures (bearing in mind the viv isn't quite finished yet, I have got some vinyl coming for the inside and there are a couple of ornaments on there way for it too so hopefully they will be here in time).
I will happily do a quick video too, not a problem.
Hayley, I hope Kellog doesn't mind me letting you know but Silvi has eaten now and is happily digesting a fluff as we speak. She said it left a perfect size bump and she ate it well.
It is always so worrying when they won't eat isn't it? When I first got Cathy I was at my wit's end trying to get her to have positive feeding responses as she had been drop fed since she was born and it really was a gamble. Sometimes she would, sometimes she wouldn't. Two steps forwards, and then one back and one sideways just to muddle me up. Her tiny weight fluctuated so much I was really worried at one point. Getting her to 15g was a huge achievement for her, and then on to 20g. It was hard work but SO worth it now she is putting the weight on and is on the double pinkies and letting me give them to her off the tongs. I don't feed her out of the viv yet as I still don't want her to miss a feed, but have spoken and had advice off lots of breeders on here who say that it really isn't a problem with it if that is what the snake prefers.
A lot of people have told me that they have noticed that their little snakes really start to grow when they graduate from pinkies to fuzzies. Going by my Cathy's growth rate, I think if I can get her to take the 8 pinkies I have left at 6 days apart I am going to give her a good weigh (I only do it monthly as I was getting so upset at first) and I will take it from there. If she is hitting the 30g mark I will take her up to fuzzies, but if not I will keep her on pinkies as she is very slender and they do leave a bump still.
When my little see through girl has been on fuzzies for a while I might give feeding her out of the viv a try. I would love to see her up near the 50g mark before I go messing round with her feeding. She never ceases to amaze me so who knows now!
Have you noticed with your snow that it is easy to see where they are at with the "digesting" phase?! I was a little unnerved at first but then realized it was a huge help! |

So much to read :o its always fun to watch them strike! So much power in something so little :) Glad she is now (hopefully) routinely eating with no issues :D Glad to hear Silvi is eating well also ^^ Cant wait for the picture and video updates. Both my snakes eat in their tanks and ive had no issues with them thinking im food...thankfully (touch wood nothing will happen along those lines.) My Mo was weighed recently and has gained 3g since starting on double pinks (going to keep on that until ive run out and move to fluffs (thats the next size name from my local store). Mo (creamsicle) is now 26g and Abbey(bubblegum snow) is 46g :o Both have the transparency and i find it so fascinating! |

Am glad you let Hayley know that Silvi had eaten Fi. There was a nice little pile in her viv this morning, so I can breathe again because I really was worrying she' d start regurging again.
They are funny the different ways they take food. With mine they quite often do the 'quality control' check on the mouse before they decide its worth eating and gently open their mouths to take it. It's almost as though they do a snake dance around it . But it drives me crazy because I can't 'dangle' for long and a lot of times I've given in and just laid the mouse down for them to take when they're ready!
I'm sure you will get there with feeding Cathy outside of her viv, but there is no rush and, as we know, everything has to be done on 'Cathy time' . I'm with you in that all that matters is she's eating .
I'm still not sure I could handle a snake where you can see what's inside it working its way down .

Well, Cathy is doing amazingly well. She has had 3 feeds now in succession 6 days apart and the last one was.... a fuzzie! It is even more impressive for her as she was/is in blue. I thought I would just pop it by where she is hiding out and she gobbled it up in no time. Wasn't really up for waving food round in front of her face considering she wouldn't be able to see it. She is usually quite miserable when she is in blue so I thought she might as well have a full tummy if she would take it and she did
So proud of her as she is completely settled in her new home and absolutely thriving. Once her new clothes appear I am going to give her a weigh and then a feed to see how she is doing.
Had a really lovely surprise today too - my Mum was going up to town where Pets at Home is and I asked if she would pop in and get some sphagnum moss for Cathy as it is so warm I thought it wouldn't do any harm having a little in if she needs it for her shed, and my Mum came away with a little something extra for me... another corn snake . She had been looking at them and this little girl had been in there for quite a while so one phone call to me, and I have a Delilah to go with my Cathy. Not the Heathcliff I had planned but I don't care, she is absolutely gorgeous to me and I am thrilled with her, and even more so that my Mum drove home with a snake in the car as she isn't the hugest fan of them! So, without further ado, may I present Delilah to you
And another, just so you get the overall picture (she was very settled when I took her out of her RUB before putting her into her new home so I had the camera on standby just in case - this lady is not camera shy unlike Cathy!).
She is a fantastic weight (18g) and going by her feeding records hasn't missed a feed at all so I am looking forwards to letting her settle in and then getting to know her. I don't think the settling in time is going to make me frustrated in the least as she has already impersonated a tortoise with sticking her head out of her coco hide, had a drink, fallen in her water bowl and is generally checking her new pad out.
So, with Delilah settling in and waiting for Cathy to shed there is lots going on! Cathy has changed a lot since the last picture I posted of her so I can't wait to show you how great she is looking now, and how big she is getting too |
