smart bunny, truth be told, I just thought "what the heck, I haven't got anything to lose" by trying Cathy with a fuzzie (which although labelled as such, looked like a rather large pinkie to me ). I didn't have any reservations going back to "drop feeding" her too, as I was more intrigued as to whether or not she would eat in blue. Tong feeding will resume once she has new clothes, that is for sure!
I was genuinely delighted that she took the fuzzie. Cathy detests being handled when she is in blue so I was happy that at least she didn't miss a feed as BOY is she having a growth spurt at the moment. It is amazing to see the difference. Just so proud that all the picky feeding days seem to be behind us now and she is making up for lost time. That being said, her eyes are clear this morning so we have had a little cuddle to make up for lost time. She is now happily rolling round in spagnum thinking all her Christmases have come at once (I thought I would treat her as it is a very dry warm in our room).
Thank you Hayley, Cathy really is doing herself proud at the moment. Her little eyes are returning to their gorgeous red now, not the milky pink they have been for a few days.
(Not so) little Delilah seems to be settling in very well too. When I went in to change her water this morning she was out and about saying hello. I feel as though I have cheated her a little with her name as Cathy's is admittedly a bit pompous. Delilah's name has come from my favourite song by The Dresden Dolls. My Mum loves them (which is quite a surprise, but she is very young in her tastes) and she loves the same song too so I thought it quite fitting that she have a name that ties her in with my gorgeous Mum who got her for me.
I must admit, even at 39 I feel like one very spoiled daughter (I am an only child!). It isn't my birthday until October but I love that Mum picked Delilah for me. She has googly eyes and a pattern that looks as though somebody fell asleep drawing on her head but that just makes her all the more gorgeous to me!
Hope your two are keeping well |

Well hopefully little cath shall shed soon :o Atleast Delilah is very confident sounding :o Its a good sign in my books ^^ So sweet that she is a reminder of your mother daughter bond, Doesnt matter how old you are, someone will spoil you like a child :P I love the oddball paterns personally. Makes them even better :D
Well the eight july was a good day for our snakelings, First Mo had a beautifully clean shed, ON ME! which was awesome and unusual aha(video has been posted), second both our snakes got to enjoy their first time out on grass and enjoy great sunshine! (photo's posted), thirdly they were both weighed and have gained 4g each! Mo is now 30g and Abbey is 50g. Such a happy day for everyone :D We've also ordered Abbeys next size up terrainium, it arrived today, glass smashed and wood fecking fractured! I am not a happy bunny! So compained to the company and waiting for a reply... very frustrating. Especially since we were hopping to move Abbey to her big girl tank, Mo's still not quite ready. But with the spare baby one we were going to get a male anery! But now that cant happen :/ |

Still waiting Blackcat! I got Cathy out literally half an hour ago and she has nice clear eyes but no new clothes yet - the tip of her tail is very dry so I have popped her in a hide full of new sphagnum moss to see if she will get a move on! She was more than happy to be handled but kept snagging her old clothes on my skin which was startling her at first, daft snake that she is.
She is due a feed tonight so I am going to give it a try. She has shown me she can eat in blue so I am really going to push it and see if she will eat again for me. Picky eating days are behind us for sure.
Thank you for the lovely words you said about Delilah. I genuinely had never thought of getting a Carolina (yes, having an attack of the posh as there is no such thing as a normal corn, they are all so beautiful in their own rights). I was even more surprised when I saw pictures of how vibrant she will get when she is a big girl. I think there might have been some kind of underhand goings on with my Mum getting her for me, when I showed her what colour Delilah will go she said that it would be a lovely colour for a purse (I do hasten to add, Mum was joking but has a rather macabre sense of humour like myself!).
Delilah has been on a 7 day maintenance diet at Pets at Home so I am going to feed her tonight to see how she goes as it is Cathy's night too (Delilah would be due tomorrow and a few good feeds wouldn't go amiss on this young lady for sure).
Just had to edit this as I didn't see what you had written Hayley. I am so sorry that Abbey's viv came in the state it did - that is awful. I hope you can still get the male anery that you have got your heart set on. Where there is a will there is a way . I saw this link on a website I was looking at earlier this morning and these breeders swear by these boxes.
http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/fullrange_rub.php
Maybe one of these wouldn't break the bank whilst you are waiting to get Abbeys viv sorted
http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/rub/b04_0litre.php?
Would be handy for storing bits and bobs afterwards too. There are loads of mats and stats on Amazon (I generally go there as I live on the Isle of Man and not all mainland based companies will deliver over here). You could get it all in for about £25.
Loved seeing the pics and video you took of your two as well, they are brilliant. Have you got a name in mind for your new acquisition yet? |

Do you know what, in all this excitement, I have completely forgotten to post pics of Cathy's new home
It is all finished now and she really seems to love it so without further ado - Wuthering Heights, the definitive version!
This is the warm side of her viv (this one goes warm to cool left to right). Complete with blasted grape vine, the ever present yellow flowers and a lovely little plastic tree stump that she likes going in and out of.
Just from a slightly different angle, she still has her old coco hide and herp haven hiding away in there!
Cool side of the viv with her loo roll cave, her current favourite hiding place (the house) and a jacuzzi size water bowl. I have given her lots of cover and places to hide as I was worried that she would be stressed with the move - which was proven to be unfounded as she loves it in there. She makes use of ever last inch of the place! One thing that did surprise me is that she adores the green silk leaves on the left hand side of the picture. She is quite often to be found curled up at the top of them, or, and I kid you not - curled up on the top shelf out in the open! She looked like a little white dog poo!
And lastly, just a little look down the viv to get a general look of it. I know it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing from the outside, but I have gone with what I know Cathy likes in there. I figured that as it was her home and not mine, I should fill it with things I know she likes. When she gets bigger I will take a few of the smaller things out and replace them, and I am going to get her a rope but that is in time to come.
When the time comes, Delilah is going to get the same one and I will stack them. They aren't the stacking Vivexotics ones, but I though if I put a good 6" gap between them and good support for air to circulate it will be fine. As Mum didn't have to get Delilah a home, she is going to get her a big girl house when she needs it too, as part of my present. I have plenty of time to get to know what Cathy's little sister likes to play with and will "decorate" according to her tastes.
Apologies for the picspam, but I realized that I hadn't put any pictures up of Cathy's new home that I had been going on (and on and on) about! |

Haven't been on for a while Fi and its brilliant seeing how everything has progressed, and changed! Miss Cathy on fuzzies, even when blue and what a fantastic home she's got . I love the fact that you've gone for what's right for her rather than what looks pretty, although as a herper it looks perfect to me . I really searched the pics to see if I could see her, but couldn't. Is she there and I've missed her?
As for Delilah, I think it's a perfect name for her and so different to Cathy's. Whats important is that it's a name that means something to you and it shows the love between you and your mum . I just had to smile thinking about her 'saving' Delilah from P@H and driving home with her, even though she isn't overly keen on snakes. That's parental love for you . And she picked such a beautiful, and original, snake. 'Normals' are so often looked over and it's sad that they are because then beauties like Delilah are missed....but without them, the wild, original corn snake, we wouldn't have all the morphs we have now. And she's such a contrast to little, white/pink Cathy ! Both so stunning in their own unique ways.
Hope Carhy sheds ok soon. I'll be interested to know whether she eats or not. I must admit that personally I wouldn't try to feed her, knowing that she's so close to a shed. It must be uncomfortable for her and my thinking would be that I'd wait that extra day or 2 and almost guarantee a feed rather than feed her so close to shedding, risk a refusal and have to wait another 6 days before trying again. But that's just me ....and you know Miss Cathy so much better .

Shhh, don't say the "N" word Kellog - I have told Delilah she is a Carolina and she believes me
Cathy is in the viv, she is behind the house in the 3rd picture. That is her current "favourite place ever". It changes weekly so I have to pay attention to where she is. I thought I had lost her a couple of weeks ago . She was actually wound round the silk leaves and I swear I heard her sniggering!
Ah, change that - she is now wiggling out of her old clothes, so a good rest and drink and it will definitely be dinner time tonight for her for sure. I am just trying to keep up the momentum with her feeding as she is going so well. Delilah's feeding records show that she must eat whether or not she is in blue, shedding or anything as she hasn't had a missed feed (and her records go as far back as the beginning of March) so that will make one heck of a change!
Watch out for your email inbox, I shall email you rather than write heaps on here xxx |

No wonder I couldn't spot her if she was behind the house . Must admit I did wonder how you find her in all of that, one little white snake in a big viv with SO many hiding places!
That's brilliant news that she's shedding . And I take it that you are watching her do it ??!!! And great timing so you can feed her tonight. She must know its feeding day and wants to wiggle out of her old clothes in preparation .

What a palace for Cathy - her new viv is brilliant So glad she has 'now' shed - quite bold these days with her feeding and shedding, you must be so pleased with how well she is now doing. I will try and remember not to mention the 'N' word in Delilah's company, nothing N about Carolina's |

Kellog she wriggled out right in front of me - shed in one piece. Then she just had a little drink and sauntered off for a sleep! It was really quite funny at feeding time as this was the first time I was going with a proper fuzzie off the tongs (the last one was an oversized pinkie, I am sure of it and she took it off the hide as she was in blue). She had a good old sniff of the fuzzie, looked at me as if to say "all for me?" then made a huge lurch (can't quite call it a strike yet) and polished it off rather qickly . She is currently digesting *somewhere* as I am sure the other half will have words if I start opening the viv before 6am. Will check at about 8am when I do her water.
Delilah on the other hand - WOW is all I can say. I rang up P@H to ask what she was on as although her feeding records are great they didn't say if she was on doubles etc and I found out she was on single pinkies 7 days apart. I wanted a little bit more for her so thought I would feed her last night too (she should have been fed on Sunday, but having been so long 7 days apart thought she might enjoy a little meal whilst she was settling in. Well - little meal it wasn't. She is a striker! Took the pinkie clean off the tongs with a little coil round them for show. Once that was down her head was right up looking for more so as she weighs 18g, I didn't see the harm. Went down, defrosted another (little) pinkie shoved in a plastic bag in my hands rather quickly and that finally satisfied her (after another strike). I guess that is what getting a new corn snake is like! Will go off and investigate where she is digesting later when I do her water too.
So, two happy girls digesting away, phew!
Blackcat Thank you for the lovely words about Cathy's new home, she really does seem to like it a lot. I have to admit that yes, I am really pleased with how well she is doing, she really has done herself proud. The "feeding is a good thing" switch seems to have gone on with her and it is great.
Hayley I hope the links are of some use to you - I ordered a few boxes off there yesterday as feeding RUBs etc for the girls in time to come. Cathy is going to take some convincing to go in there but I don't think I am going to have any problems with Delilah. I have the feeling she will go wherever there is food for her! I love the name you have picked for the little anery that you want, Gomez is brilliant! Fingers crossed that you can get him soon |

Thank you smart bunny, I must admit, I am rather chuffed at how Cathy's big girl home has turned out. She loves it and that is the main thing. I have seen some really fantastic ones on here but at the end of the day, it is in my bedroom so it isn't a show piece and it is full of the kinds of thing she seems to like the best (and it is her home after all!)
Delilah's feeding response did surprise me I have to admit. I didn't flinch but I probably looked a little slack jawed when she had done it
Went up to town today to get her an interim RUB until the one I have ordered for her comes as I will be able to get her out for her next feed and I might as well start as I mean to go on with her. Given her enthusiasm shall we say, I don't fancy her being in the viv when she is fully grown and there is food involved! I thought she would be happily digesting away today - but nope. She is burrowing round, drinking and popping out of her hide to see what is going on. I have checked her temps and they are fine, and she hasn't had a regurge so I am so pleased with her, as I am with Cathy having her first proper fuzzie. I definitely lucked out yesterday for sure |

Well, as my husband put it quite well "if she won't feed in it, you can store their sphagnum moss in it!" which I was quite impressed at as he is a man of few words
Looking forwards to getting the boxes I ordered from the link above though, I didn't know about the company and the boxes (or RUBs, whichever you are going to use them for!) look great value for money, and I like the fact that the snake website I was looking at linked them. Will try and find the actual link that took me to them in the morning.
Got my fingers crossed that you can get Gomez. Any news on Abbey's viv yet? |

The company hasnt contacted me back :( There isnt even a way we can fix it. Just a waste of money :/ I feel horrible because of it tbh. She doesnt need it right now, but i like to plan ahead. But once she has moved up then we are going to look for our Anery :) So see how things go. |

I know exactly how you feel (about the planning ahead, I like to do it too) but it isn't the fact she doesn't need it now. It is the fact that you have spent your hard earned money on it
They have a duty of care to ensure it arrives with you "fit for purpose". I am not totally with it (I have been asleep and just woken up for a few minutes) but let me have a think about who you could contact and I will get back to you in the morning - even Trading Standards as a last resort might work. Big vivs aren't cheap, and it would have freed up one of your smaller ones for Gomez. Promise to have a think when I am fully with it in the morning |

My pleasure hun, it makes me so angry when companies rip people off. I do hasten to add that I am not a professional complainer - I actually hate doing it but I DO believe that you should get what you pay for. It wouldn't be as bad as if you had got a top for a night out and it was damaged (that would be just a pain in the rear end), but buying a viv really does give away the fact that there is a live animal needing it.
This is the website I was thinking of but couldn't find last night - it has all the info and tells you which bits of the law you can throw at them and what to do if they won't get in contact. I hope you can get something sorted for Abbey's new home (and not a broken one)

When i got home from work today i had gotten an email from them. Stating - "I will refer this to our despath manager on Monday and get back to you. I am so sorry you have received a damaged item. They are all quality checked before they leave us, so it must have happended in transit. " Quite odd spelling errors for a professional company but hey ho lets see if they stick to their word. Thanks for the link. |
