Well, she has a little bowl of sphagnum moss in there with her in case she needs to have a little more humidity. I have to admit, I don't have the central heating on in my room as the warmer it gets, the more likely I am to have a seizure so have to keep on the cool side.
Kellog I know she may go back down to single figures again, but I now know I can get her back up to double figures which is the main thing. Just making sure she has fresh water and leaving her undisturbed at the moment.
She definitely wasn't up for coming out of the viv. She was happy being handled, but when I popped her on "her" towel, she went straight back to my hand, so thought it best to pop her back home, as I don't want to stress her.
Just leaving her content, getting her through her shed and a nice feed when she is ready will be more than enough |

Well done with the moss. Hopefully it's not necessary, but it's good to be safe, especially in her circumstances. Your bedroom sounds like mine, only mine isn't like it from choice....well, not MY choice !!
It's interesting, she did exactly what Silvi does if I get her out in the few days before her eyes go cloudy. I always know its coming because she starts sneezing and doesn't want to leave me. Shows how insecure they must feel, they stay close to us where they know they're safe. But it's definitely a stress not worth putting them through.
You're right about the fact that you know you can get her back into double figures....she can and will eat, you know why she refused the last couple of times and, hopefully, the regurges are a thing of the past. It's just a case of being patient.

Well, I have a zombie snake this morning! Full on white eyes! I am not going to take a picture of her this morning as it is her first shed with me, and when I get to know her temperament more in shed I know I will have loads of opportunities to do it, but my oh my - it is a sight (or not in her case ) to behold. She has had a little snuggle in my hands and is now curled up UNDER the sphagnum moss, so I just popped her back in there.
Her breathing seems fine, no snuffles. She had a good 10 minutes in my hand just having a stretch up my arm but I didn't offer her the towel and seemed very content. I picked up a tip from the vet I take her to - to tap my foot in a certain rhythm before I open her viv so she will associate that with me coming in and it worked fine this morning.
She just looks so helpless! My little shoelace with fangs is hopefully going to clear up in a few days, and then a few days later - new clothes and a new meal
Edited to add - Kellog fingers crossed that the regurges are a thing of the past now - this is the longest she has gone without a regurge in her life, and she has had 3 meals with me, and 2 refusals. The first refusal I have put down to overwhelming her with too much food, because she ate after that one, then this refusal was *just* before she became a little clingy and then her eyes filmed over.
This is all stuff I have put in my little note book for her so I will hopefully know when the next one is due. I am looking forwards to having her in shiny clothes playing on the bed again after a good meal once she has shed.
I had the moss on standby in the cupboard for her and it was a very good call from you to pop some in as she is very comfy curled up underneath it with her head just popping out. She is breathing well and that is all I can ask for at the moment. |

Thank you for those lovely words Natalie - she has been quite the challenge so far to say the least! We are getting there though, slowly but surely for her.
I just find it amazing that a tiny little creature can have so much character
Kellog has (quite rightly) pointed out we may go back to single figures, but I know I can get her back up again, and this time I am a lot more prepared for it.
I am just so proud that she hasn't regurged on me, as that was my biggest fear. With everyone's help, I have taken a couple of refusals in my stride.
I am leaving "Shauna of the Dead" as my husband has lovingly christened her in her current state to be secure for a couple of days
I bet you can't wait for Phoenix to have his first shed with you - I adore looking at the pictures that people put up pre and post shed on here, at any age. The difference is so incredible. I am just hoping my little shoelace is a little less see through each time - it is a little unnerving! |

Well, she is certainly keeping me entertained, even in shed mode! Her eyes are now clear due to some racket going on in the viv so hopefully a new outfit for her in the next few days!!
No more Shauna of the Dead, just one slightly annoyed (and probably hungry) Cathy!
Can't wait for new clothes for her, so I can have a photo shoot with her |

I have my fingers crossed you get to watch her shed, I know Morse will shed once all the lights are out and I have gone to bed - he/she is a very secretive snake |

If I think I know my lady as well as I do so far - hell will freeze over before I see her shed for a while! For one so outgoing when out of the viv, she is a secretive little so and so when it comes to anything remotely interesting I might like to witness |

I know that feeling well Fi, I have not seen either of my corn snakes shed in the 16 months I have had them. However, the snakes that I know to be nocturnal and very secretive (my BRB's and CRB's) I have seen three of them shed Good luck and I hope she has a good shed, but with the moss hide in there I should think it will be just fine |

I can understand your excitementchoosing a new snake is great. Our first corns were rescues-with assorted issues-and getting a healthy baby that we chose was wonderfull. Please dont close your mind to a rescue/rehome they can be very rewarding. Also fish bits can be used for snakes,we use bogwood (heat sterilised first). good luck and happy snake 'hunting' |

That was a quick change from being slightly filmed over, to zombie white eyes and then back to clear eyes !! I do love your husband's sense of humour....'Shauna of the dead '. So right!
Part of me hopes that you do see Cathy shed, because you are so sure that she'll do it secretly and she never does the expected .
I totally agree with you about rehoming MjPeters....two of mine are like that. One was for sale normally, but when I saw the state she was in I couldn't leave her there, even though she wasn't what I was looking for....and the other came from a rescue centre. It's why I've landed up only having adults. I am sorry to have missed out on the hatchling and growing side, but I get so much joy from them that they more than make up for it .
Fi....your email is part done, it's just rather long and taking time and energy. You will get it....just prepare yourself for a real epic !

Well, I think "Shauna of the Dead" might have been called a little early. Yes, her eyes filmed over but I haven't been well for a couple of days and Mr "Antibac hand gel and gloves" had a look in her notebook and saw that she was "due a feed" and popped a pinkie in for her last night.
This morning? Gone! This young lady is totally messing with my head for sure!
Had a quick look in this morning when I was changing her water and she is happily curled round her beloved flowers digesting away in the warm end. Confused? You betcha!
(Looking forwards to the email Kellog - but only when you are ready xxx) |

Sorry to hear you haven't been well Fi :( Glad that Cathy took the pinkie supplied by Mr 'Antibac hand gel and gloves' - mine will take food once their eyes have cleared, I missed the cloudy stage on a couple of ocasions and fed and then found a nice shed the following day or a couple of days later. Hopefully you will have a nice shiny Cathy soon |

Cathy took the pinkie on purpose, she's trying to get into " Mr antibac hand gel and gloves" 's good books, that's all part of her plan to wrap him around her little finger - I mean - little tail. Seems she's well on the way :-) |

Natalie - you are not wrong, contrary Miss Earnshaw most certainly is, that is for sure!
Blackcat - well, I have to be honest, I am quite glad he *did* look in my note book and misinterpret what I had written as she has had a good feed. Bless him, Mr "Antibac gel and gloves" even wrote what time he gave it to her, what weight it was, that he had put the pinkie head down on the coco hide and popped the towel over the viv!
Razee - she is just a tart, pure and simple! I think I have Wuthering Heights being played out for me! I think I am going to start having to call "Mr Antibac hand gel and gloves" Edgar Linton instead!
smart bunny - I honestly couldn't have given her a better name, that is for sure. The most contrary snake on this planet!
Luke - think you might be right. I haven't been married too long, but am thinking am going to have to site her in divorce papers in years to come! Fortunately I was well enough to get out yesterday, so I bought him some plants and fish for his beloved fish tank (and to make him stay away from Cathy, lol!!) |
