Ok, today was Cathy's official weigh in day and we have gone from 9g when I got her home 4 weeks ago today to ............. 15g!!! I am so proud of her and she is so much more muscular again and happy.
Cathy whispered in my ear earlier and would like me to thank each and every one of you that has given me advice for her. Yes, she feeds in the viv, and yes, she is a little girl. But she no longer has a neurotic owner and for that she is most grateful |

Very nice weight gain, mine were slower to put on weight at that size, especially Bazilishka, and she fed regularly every 5 days. Don't be disappointed, if she weighs a bit less after the shed. They tend to have a big poop, and the shed must weigh something as well. On the other hand, you get a nice " empty " weigh then.
And tell Cathy, there's nothing wrong with just feeding in the viv :-) |

That is great news Fi, she must be feeling a lot better and she is very lucky to have a fabulous new owner to take care of her. it will be interesting to see how much she weighs after she sheds. Well done to both of you |

Lol well done Cathy that is fab weight gain already! (No, it's not too fast Fi, don't get all worried again :P :P :P ) Feeding in the viv is fine - if that's what she insists upon, that's just what you'll have to do ;) |

That is fantastic Fi . I can hardly believe it, especially considering the fact that you've had a couple of refusals. Shows how good care can make all the difference .
I know she feeds in the viv, but there's nothing wrong with that. Lots of owners choose to feed their snakes in their vivs and, in time and if you want to, you can try to see if she'll feed in a different RUB. I suspect that once she's feeding regularly, as long as she's got her coconut hide, she'll be happy to eat out of her viv....but then this is Miss Cathy we're talking about, you can never predict anything that snake will do !

HOLY THREAD RESURRECTION
Apologies for being AWOL - family life has just tumbled out of control for a few weeks. Just wanted to update you all and let you know how Cathy is doing. We now weigh a solid 17g - which I am beyond thrilled at.
Had a refusal a couple of days ago and lo and behold, after a couple of false alarm, one gorgeous shiny shed this morning
Have checked it for everything - tip and eye caps included. Am beyond thrilled for her.
Quick question to those in the know, having tried various ways, Cathy will only eat weekly. I haven't a problem as she is showing great weight gain and is so much more muscular and in better shape. How long should I leave it until offering her as the little monkey shed literally 2 feet away from me this morning in a matter of seconds! I am thinking of leaving her for a day, and trying tomorrow, but she had a missed feed so should I try tonight?

Hi Fi, don't need to apologies for being AWOL I often disappear for weeks with out visiting the site (no one notices that I'm not about) Glad to hear Cathy is doing so well and putting weight on nicely, once I know mine are in the shed cycle I don't bother offering food so sometimes mine can miss two feeds dependant on how long they take to complete the whole cycle (and whether I noticed the first signs). With regards to feeding after, I have fed on the same day they have shed and also waited until the next day - all dependant on what 'time' I have available. Hope this helps |

That was a long wait ! But I'm so glad she's finally shed and it was a good one. I'm even more pleased at her weight gain ....that's fantastic!
I'm the same as Blackcat. I tend to feed on the same day as they shed, as they usually do it overnight so there is a gap between them shedding and me feeding them....but sometimes it drags on to the next day. Whatever suits you I think Fi.
Nice to see you back on here .

Thanks guys - am going to go for tonight as she has had quite a while without one, and seems to be roaming the viv for something to eat - I take it meals on feet is late today
I feel like a proud Mum - my first ever shed and it is gorgeous
She is getting a nice clean out first, that will keep me out of mischief this afternoon! I just want to leave her for a little while as the shed was literally at 9am this morning but can't wait to see how great she looks when I get her out - definite photo shoot opportunity - picspam later on today

Guessed you'd probably go for tonight....and I'm not surprised Miss Cathy is making her needs known . I'm also not surprised you feel like a proud mum . I'm assuming you're going to display that first shed in pride of place!
Can't wait to see the pics of her looking all clean and bright....and look forward to your email, which can't be as epic as mine !

Shedding is quite tiring so I wouldn't offer immediately after - but I'm sure she'll be more than ready by tonight ;) I usually offer either in the evening if the shed is during the day or the following day after a shed if it's in the evening. Glad it all went without a hitch for you - she did keep you waiting lol! |

Ah, I was starting to wonder, where you were :-) I'm glad Cathy's doing well and has put on weight and growing, looking forward to the pics later. I kept the sheds of both of mine, I put them in a plastic sleeve, with a paper, on which I write the date of shed, shed number, and their size. It's amazing to compare the latest shed with the first ever shed :-) Re feeding, I'm the same as smart bunny, if I find shed in the morning, I feed that evening, if they shed in the evening, the next morning... that way they'd have had a little rest. I'm sure Cathy can't wait for her meals on legs :-)

I totally agree Smartbunny....both tiring and stressful. I think we often don't realise that because they seem to 'slip' out of their old skin so easily. It's only because I know Fi feeds in the evening that I said a feed today would be ok. I'm the same as Razee, it depends on when my snake sheds as to when its fed.
You're all so lucky to have these sheds from when your snakes were babies. With only having had juveniles/adults, I don't really see any change between sheds, although I'm sure Asher is still growing!

On the other hand - you have the satisfaction of knowing, that you've taken in adult snakes in need of a home, which is really nice :-) I bet they are all still growing, even if it's only by a tiny bit at a time. If you were to save their first ever shed with you, and then compare it to a shed couple of years later, bet there would be a difference :-)

Thank you so much everyone - picspam will have to wait. I was actually going to feed her Friday night as you know, but I popped in to change her water and she was quite literally flaked out in her little hide. Happily breathing away, but really not interested at all, so I left her until last night.
Thought another day wouldn't do any harm as I am SO pleased with her weight gain. Popped her pinkie in last night and ended up in a rather amusing situation. She was sat resting her head on her Herp Haven "watching" TV when I went in armed with pinking and tongs after the usual prep of kitchen paper under her coco hide so she can't ingest substrate and she quickly retreated back in (this is quite normal for her). She only retreats away when she can smell food.
I put the towel over the viv (again, overkill but it seems to be how she prefers to eat) and couldn't resist having a little peek about half an hour later as the room was quiet and she was half in half out of her coco hide, pinkie no longer on the shell - I think if she could have spoken it would have been words that aren't permitted on here! Left her to it, and this morning, happily snuggled in said coco hide (warm side - see, I to take note of what you all tell me!)
As the shed must have tired her out more than I realized on Friday I just gave her a tiny bit of reptoboost and WOW did that perk her up, she was out of the viv for about an hour yesterday. I was so excited to see how she looked - she has got really strong pink coming out on her cheeks now. Ok, weird as it sounds, I was sat in bed with my ever suffering husband letting her have playtime, and she kept making a beeline for him. No amount of coaxing was going to deter her until she had had some quality 1 on 1 time with him! Little tart . We were both enjoying watching her trying to decide who to spend her time with that we both forgot to get the camera out. Once she has had time to digest this meal, Mr Antibac handgel and gloves is going to bring out the DSLR to get some really good pics of her as even he was gushing over the subtle but still obvious changes in her colour.
Oh my goodness, how sad is this? I measured her shed The shed is 18 inches long, I couldn't believe it! When I got her I did a "best estimate" with a piece of string and she was only roughly 12 inches long.
Kellog you know all my other pets are all rescue (apart from the tropical fish), and that is a fantastic thing that you have taken on juveniles and adults that people didn't want. Razee is completely right.
I know that I will have a few of Cathy's sheds from when she was little, but rescuing an unwanted snake is so much more than trundling off to a breeder to grab a "pretty baby" - it needs so much more hard work and I know how much you have put in.
One bonus thing - I have a vague idea what my little girl looks like with her mouth open now! I have never seen her open her mouth as all she does is stick her tongue out. The shed was quite unnerving when I first saw it as I wondered what the flap on the bottom was . Yes Fi, that would be your corn snake's lower jaw!
I was just reading back to some of the questions that I asked when I first joined here, and although they now seem trivial to some extent to me, they were invaluable at the time and the cumulative knowledge has made for one confident owner and one very happy, healthy girl.
Just little things like SexyBear77's advice that "in viv" feeding isn't the end of the world, learning to go with my intuition with regards to so many things. Cathy will only eat once a week - but she eats, she poos, she wees and boy is she growing so Munson - sorry, your plan isn't going to work for her!
Tell you one thing I could have had the heads up on please - nobody told me how fast she was going to get!! Our bed is now "hers" when she gets out of the viv, so my husband is going to build her a "play pen" so she can have a good space to stretch and play in but can't fall off (I wouldn't want her falling off the bed). Just a large square frame that I can put down on the floor for her to go roaming round in as fast as she wants, without being in danger of falling anywhere.
Measured her viv yesterday too - we only have 5 inches until a move is required so her new home is well on it's way to being finished. I am not allowed to show you any works in progress, but when it is finished, my husband will be more than happy for me to show off his handy work - he is a total perfectionist!
