My pulse thermostat seems to be playing up. I have turned it off for now as I don't think it is safe for Apollo.
It works fine most of the time, keeping the temperature to a steady 28degrees. However it seems to hiccup occassionally, allowing the temperature to rise a little more. Usually not above 30 degrees however according to my digital thermometer (which I trust because it hasn't let me down in the past and I have checked that it is still reading temperature correctly), the temperature of his heat mat got to 34 degrees last night!
Is this just a fault with the thermostat itself? I will go and buy a new one today if it will solve everything.
Apollo is meant to be fed today but obviously I can't do that if his heat is not sorted. |

Just a thought - could the snake knock the probe out off the way , or could he have been lying on the temperature probe? |

The temperature probe and thermostat probe are attached together with an elastic band so if he had been lying on it, the thermometer would read a cooler temperature as well. It is also wedged under the edge of some of the decoration in the tank so that it cannot be moved.
I've ordered a new thermostat. *sigh* the expense. Apollo will have to wait a few days to be fed. |

Wow, sure it's the best thing to do! How old was your thermostat? |

My thermostat wasn't old but it was an ebay purchase. It was meant to be new but it had clearly been used before. Perhaps they even knew about the fault when they sold it. Negative feedback for them. |

Well in this case you should email them before giving a negative feedback, they are likely to offer a reimbursement (total or partial) if you didn't purchase long ago! That might save you money. Well, let me correct: that will allow you to invest that money on other snake stuff. There! |

Unfortunately it was 6 months ago now. I think that's too long to be able to leave feedback even? I had the thermostat as a backup for a long time, until I put Apollo into his new viv so I didn't know it didn't work. |

Oh I am sorry for that, I think that's too much time even for leaving a feedback, like you said. After two months the transaction is erased from your eBay account so you probably don't have it in your eBay history anymore... It would be a good thing if you remebered the seller though, not to buy from him again! |

Probably just bad luck. I had the same problem with a faulty thermostat bought new from ebay that stopped working after only 4 months, very nearly cooked my daughter's poor snake |
