Hi, it sounds like Cornelius is a lucky snake that you have the self control to do what's best for him, it can be so tough! I only manage with my newest addition because I have the others!..lol, all mine seem to like aspen too as their nature is to burrow, in addition to the usual hides I have a couple of plant pots (bases removed and filed so they can't get stuck in the little holes) partially buried that they appear to like exploring, any other substrate, like turf, paper etc...wouldn't allow the freedom to move there decs around and bury as well as aspen allows, but as has been said before, its all personal choice/budget.
There is a feeding guide on here somewhere, based on your snakes weight as a guide to how to feed, but really think he should be on fuzzies...maybe try him with double pinkies for a couple of weeks and see how he fares then move him up?
