Yeah im going to make slits in most of the other eggs tomorrow.
I got the snake out of the egg and put it into a tub with warm damp kitchen roll. It was definately dead, and was inside a really tight.. sack is the best word i can come up with. looked like it was laminated :S and its umbillical cord (dunno if thats the right term) but it was wrapped around the snake. I don't see how it could have breathed when it was alive.. And it was miniature. well, it was about 8cm long, and the widest part of it was less than half a cm.
its head was the strangest part. It had an almost normal snake head, but its eyes were really black and it had a red nose. But it looked like its brain was too big for its head.. had a big bulge.
Ive got a pic n will try upload it tomorrow, if anyone is interested in seeing it.. its very weird. |

Awww hun I can really understand how worried and confused you are. I have to say I think I would end up cutting more of the eggs to find out if they were all dead but only you can see how the eggs are and make the final decision. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with breeding yet so I am in no position to advise. Why don't you go onto the tcs facebook group and post there with some photos of your eggs and what you found this afternoon. I think there are more people on there with experience of breeding problems |

Just to let people know, i slit four of the eggs. The four that were the most dented. I cut a 1cm slit into each, very carefully. And i candled the area first so i didnt hit any major veins or a snake! Two of them leaked a bit of clear fluid, two of them had bloody fluid. (maybe i hit veins i couldnt see.)
Ill update in the morning if anything significant happens.. |

Okay so ive slit every egg now, just little slits still.
There's been no change, and after finding that the top egg had a dead snake in it I get the feeling none of them are going to hatch. Very upset, been waiting for what seems like forever for these to hatch.
Whats the opinion on breeding them again now? Espher has stacked the weight back on from her laying 80 odd days ago, and they both seem healthy enough to. Do you think they will breed? and is it advisable? |

I wouldn't go for a double clutch, laying takes a lot out of a female and I've always thought it's rather selfish to expect a snake to do it all again just for our gain (not that I think you are trying to be selfish). If you wait till next year she will be bigger, stronger, fully recovered and therefore be more likely to lay you a big clutch of healthy eggs, as opposed to you running the risk of getting a small clutch of poor eggs if you go for it again this year.
I'm very sorry about your eggs, but these things happen, patience will pay off in the end. x |

Yeah you're right. And I guess its not worth risking it again. Although I thought double clutching was where she laid a clutch and began producing another straight away, not breeding her again.
And yeah im gutted about the eggs, but at least next year i can get it right lol. |

Unplanned double clutching is where they do it themselves, planned double clutching is where you breed again.
It is very frustrating, last year I bred 3 of mine, 2 laid healthy looking clutches which then all died, and the other totally slugged out. Was gutted but this year is going much much better (touch wood!) |

Sounds normal really to me, all animals and humans that I know start of looking like their brain is too big for the head :p
Sorry to hear about your eggs though. |

It didn't look normal lol! maybe it was just cause it was underdeveloped, but i thought it was a deformity of some sort.
And Percy, I really dont know what to think about the other eggs.. Some of them look too collapsed in to have a snake in them, but two of them have filled back out almost to full size :S So quite confused but slightly hopeful.
