Since I got my young corn snake, he's eaten fuzzies, he ate them for 4 weeks before this whole thing started... When he went into shed, I gave him a pinky as I wasn't sure if he'd eat, but with quite a bit of encouragement he did, a few days after his actual shed (a week after previous feed) I tried to give him a fuzzy, and he started eating it, but spat it out - it looked way too big for him, so I gave him a pinky and he was fine. This weekend I've tried to give him a pinky and he just ignores it completely, he's not even bothered at all, he just goes in the opposite direction to the pinky. I exposed a bit of flesh on the pinky (the whole brain matter thing is a bit gross!) but even then he was still uninterested. He was always a good feeder until his shed .. what shall I do?!
-Thank you for any help!

its probably not warm enough for him to digest, really needs to be about 28, can you notch it up a degree and see if that makes a difference. How often are you offering, if they refuse don't offer daily as that can also put off feeding, just offer at usual intervals, my hatchie didn't feed for over 10 weeks and was fine, if you can weigh him now on some digital scales and keep a record of weight, then weigh him before you offer each feed, this way you can see if he's losing weight, in the 10 weeks mine didn't feed she only lost 3g. Don't handle either until he takes a feed, only taking him in and out when weighing. Keep us posted on how you get on

Oh dear, having a bit of a nightmare! I tried today, as he is looking pretty thin, and the temperature has been consistently 28'c but he still had no interest. I even cut out some brain matter and he couldn't of cared less. I guess I try again over the weekend. I'll weigh him now and keep track of it - I have no idea what I'm going to do if he loses weight!

You might want to try scenting the pinkie with a chick thigh, this is what I'm having to try this week! Here's a link with full instructions of what to do. Good luck

Thank you 'Hissyfit', I may try that! I am incredibly worried, after just one day he has gone from 23g to 22g, and as a baby there is only so long he can go for without food! He is a very shy snake, so do you think it would be a good idea to leave a mouse in a hide over night, or put him in a smaller dark box with the mouse so he isn't distracted? Should I try this tonight or would it be better to wait longer so he is more hungry? It's strange because he's almost acting as if he's hunting when he moves around his box, but when I bring in the mouse, he seems terrified! The temps are all normal, and nothing has been changed .. what is your opinion on trying him in a dark quiet box / leaving a mouse with him over night?! Thank you!!

I'd leave the mouse in with him over night, no point moving him if he's shy anyway. As long as he's not on any substrate, otherwise put the mouse in a small bowl or piece of tissue/kitchen roll. Best to leave it a couple of days before trying to feed him again, offering them food too often puts them off too. Hope it works out and he eats for you.

Thank you so much! I really hope he eats soon :( He is acting very strange .. When I change his water, he seems very interested in my fingers - almost like they're prey! Yet when an actual mouse goes in, he has no interest! I have put a mouse on some kitchen roll in his hide (as I didn't want it to go to waste) but he appears scared of the kitchen roll, and hasn't even gone in yet. I will leave it until tomorrow and if it hasn't been eaten, I will wait until at least Sunday to try again with a fresh mouse. I am definitely sure that he can smell the mouse in there though, as he appears to be searching everywhere (APART from the hide!) and his tounge is flicking like crazy - a slight movement of my typing and he is right up to the side of the box to have a look!! Silly boy!! In fact, he just peeked in his hide, and then slithered straight past it!! He can't be that stupid - so I'm hoping he will take a look soon!

Hi Octyman,

Not a Corn snake, but I have a Taiwanese Beauty the same age and exactly the same problem. No interest after a messy shed, he last ate on the 8th so not long but i'm worried too. My lad only weighs 38g, what is the weight of your little fella?

Yes, my Tango recently shed, but it was a good shed .. he ate a few days after but then after that nothing! He is 52cm and only weighs 23g - he looks so slim :'(! He last ate on the 6th and I'm getting increasingly more worried every day! If you find a solution please let me know! I feel like I've tried everything!!

Oh dear! Now, he is actually sleeping on top of the fuzzy! -_- If he hasn't eaten by this time next week, (would have been 19 days since previous feed) I am going to take him to the man we got him from, he has lots of experience in snakes and many other reptiles (as he runs a shop with everything from pythons to Sugar gliders!), and bred Tango himself .. he is also taking Tango in when we go for our family holiday, and he said if we have any trouble like this he could give us advice, but as it has been just over a week, it isn't that urgent yet!! So nice to know that we could get help from him if this gets really serious!!

I am sure it'll turn out well, the guy I bought Ra from will take him in to get feeding if he goes on refusing for the next 2 weeks.
If we weigh them once a week and post back here to keep track :)

I think I have found the cause with Ra..he had a horrendous shed and it looks like he retained his eye caps.
If it works i'll let you know :)

I rang the man got Tango from, and he said that when they shed, they get extremely tired, and it triggers in their brain that anything that moves is a predator. Thats why Tango was backing away, and sleeping all the time. He also said that turning the temp up was a bad decision, as it makes him feel even more lethargic. Mark has been working with snakes for 34 years, and he said he doesn't even bother feeding them 2 weeks after a shed, because it is very unlikely that he will eat. I turned the temp back down, and he is a lot more active. I tried feeding on Sunday, and he was more interested, but not quite there yet. I reckon I'll be in luck next week, as he is changing back into his normal self, so fingers crossed! I also found out that one of Mark's baby corn snakes went 4 months without eating after a shed, so at the moment, there is nothing to worry about!!
