Maybe say a friend wants you to look after their snake, then after its been yours for a while and your dads seen its no bother say your friend doesn't want it back and has asked you to keep it.

Good luck!

I would just be honest. Do a LOAD of research. I had to wait until I had researched corns for well over a year and a half before my hubby even contemplating letting me go and look at some.

Prove to your dad that you can care for it to the very best of your abilities. Sit and work out how much feed will cost you etc. Show you understand the financial side of committing to such a long term pet. Read up on every potential health problem that may or could occur...and research nearest reptile vets, think about treatment prices etc etc.

Research, research, research everything you possibly can about cornsnakes and cornsnake husbandry etc.

The more research you do then the more your dad might come round to it. My daughter is lucky. She got her 1st corn snake in december there. But only because I have had her researching, helping out when it comes to feeds, cleaning etc... Showing her how to handle and so on and so on for a year now.

My parents have objected to me getting pets for my whole life, no dogs, no cats, not even rabbits, purely because my Dad doesn't get on well with animals. He thinks it's cruel to keep them, and he's a bit of a control freak so he didn't like the idea of having yet another free spirit in the house that would be 'untrainable', like rabbits, and like snakes too I guess, but anyway, I basically sent him a text one day saying a corn snake would be an ideal pet to have. The fact that they don't require regular walks or feeding, and that they are generally low maintenance, I knew, would appeal to him, so I mentioned that of course. I sent him a few pictures, I knew he wasn't scared of them because his brother had one when they were young, and he basically said 'he'd consider it', which to me, was basically a massive breakthrough. Once I had heard those words, I went straight to my mum, who was as shocked as I was! I had to do loads of research, and pay for everything myself, and wait 4-6 weeks before buying one to make sure it wasn't just a weekend fad. It was a lot of work, I had to be on my best behaviour, and keep my room clean, and tidy the house... Perhaps try striking a deal, like you will clean the house for 6 weeks to show how dedicated you are to having a snake. Update them regularly on the research you have done, and begin to put aside some money to buy things.

They're more likely to agree to you if you're willing to help them out, too! Make it clear that you will do everything yourself, I think that was a major point for my parents, but obviously all parents are different! Good luck in convincing them though, snakes are incredible animals. Dad basically said to me, go ahead, but I will have no interest in it when it's here. You should see him now, asking questions, wanting to take pictures... It's adorable!

This. Me and my mum went behind my dads back, he was not very happy and I can see why. My dad was just worried I think I wouldn't be able to look after it since I had pets in the past and didn't bother with them. Think it upset him going behind his back like I betrayed his trust or something, made me feel well guilty.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

I definitely would not try to sneak one in unless you know that your dad would go alopng with it (like Katie's parents obviously - a PONY lol!!) - it's your dad's house so you have to respect that, and if he finds out and insists you get rid of it, what then? Not fair on a poor little snakey really

Bide your time, do your research, prove you can be responsible and you never know

you know your getting some where when your dad starts talking like you are definatly getting one, my mum made that mistake, i brought up the subject and she said: well we can't tell Aunty Doe your getting a snake. so she kinda gave me permision with that one sentance! she pulled faces when i brought 8 home but she often pops her head in to the spare roomto see what he's up to, not thatshe'll admit that she likes him!lol

lol to be fair it only works with some parents so it depends on them. my dad is an avid animal lover but completely oblivious to new things... once it was in the house he would never turf it out. its worked with rats, guineapigs, rabbits, dogs... after years of me doing this he is very compliant when i ask if he'd mind lol we only got the African clawed frogs coz we had an empty tank after the fish die and my friend wanted shot of them... i wanted a snake in there... ach well i still got one... now i have 4... my dad doesn't say a word but i think he knows by now i wouldn't ge6t if i didn't plan on looking after for as long as the animal was alive.

Depending on the parents i would take them to a rep shop and let them see. tell them all the info you can on care, how much the setup will cost, whats needed and why and most of all how little space they take up. unless either of them has a massive phobia (and i mean massive) you'll probably wear them down with showing your saving money and actually are putting the energy nto it. i really hate it when people get on a whim and then decide they're bored etc... thats how i ended up with my big 3 footer. another person who just wanted shot of it

sorry for the spiel

What I did? I made a powerpoint and - with tears in my eyes :P - showed my mum and dad all the research I'd done, and how I'd be able to afford it. That worked, and my parents were dead set against letting me have any type of reptile beforehand. Now I have five . . . :P
So yeah. Impress them with all the great research you've done :)
