hello. I had a clutch of eggs hatch a few weeks ago, and all the baby corns except one hatched properly.

One that hatched has a weird eye. Its swollen outward, turns black one day and then the next through the fluid you can see his eye. Its very weird.. any ideas what it is??? or how to fix it?

Working link for you: http://the-yellow-rose.tumblr.com/

You need to take the link when viewing as an outside viewer, the tumblelog view only works for the blog owner :)

Edit: Also, I know someone has a corn that has this problem on this forum, and they ended up having surgery to remove the eye. I'd definatly say to take the vets and get it looked out.

The person who had the corn, I can't remember, but she has two corns, called Cherry and Tequila!

definitely doesn't look good and tbh surgery on a hatchie is very complicated and VERY risk

i'd get an exotics vet/reptile specialist vet to have a look at him and probably sooner rather than later as eye problems can go pretty wrong pretty quickly
it could be an ulcer or infection relating to an original ulcer, or damage from struggling to hatch, sorry it's prolly not what you want to read

Thank you for your input.. Spreebok. I found the post discussing this..

http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16520

I just wish someone new what caused it. I would like to sell the little guy, but finding him a home will be difficult, i guess i will poke around the different reptile specialty stores and maybe find some more conclusive information.. If not, I guess I will to keep him. :)

er.........if this is potentially causing him pain, and that's a seriously[ enlarged cornea with god knows what's happening behind it, prolly with a lot of pressure behind it, if you don't get it to a vet that's basically neglect.......would you leave a puppy or kittens eye in that state?and if you did would you be surprised to get the RSPCA knocking on your door?

Thanks gingerpony... no its not what i want to hear.. but I had a feeling when he hatched he would be a difficult littler bugger. I'm gonna seek some help from a Vet and see how far I can get..

I feel bad for the little guy though.. but he is happy and golucky. we shall see.

Hi, I'm the one with the now one eye'd snake Cherry :P

Hope your snake is doing well.
There was one other person who has the same issue with there snake, sadly i don't know what happened to it. Cherry eventually had to have the eye removed after the problem just got worse and worse over a series of months.
that was about a year and a half ago, and she doesn't seem to have had any other problems, up until this past month. She has developed a lump under her neck, and the vets don't yet know wether it is related to the eye problem or not. It could be completely unrelated.

I would be interested to know where you got the snakes you bred the little hatchling from. As it seems to be such an unusual problem that has stumped every specialist i've seen i'm starting to wonder if its hereditary, coming from one particular breeder.
