ka's are great as a first car - insurance isnt too high and you can fit four people in them - or a load of bags if going shopping lol
best thing to do is go to a car dealership and just have a look at the small cars - you would be surprised at how big some can be inside

You want a car with a small engine size if you don't want it to drink too much fuel or cost a fortune to tax and insure.

If your saving up for your first car after passing your test take good advice and dont shell out much! The amount of bumps and scrapes you may (or may not) have after first having your test its better to get a cheap second hand one for the first year of driving and them think about paying out for one. Im learning and will be going straight into using our family car which I am dreading! Been insurred on it for years even so I havent driven it just to build up a no claims but trying to talk the other half into buying me a cheap run about for when I pass as would most probably be crying like a baby if I bumped or scratched our families precious wheels lol

I had a Ford Ka as my 1st car but trying to be a smart alec I changed insurance from fully comp to 3rd party to save pennies and the no sooner had I changed policy than I lost control on black ice and ran into a banking! Very unhappy lassie, over £500 worth of damage, which had to come out of my pocket the insurance company would have wrote it off and given me the value if I'd insured fully comp! So...in short, don't be a daftie like me! xx

I used to go out in ours until I nearly clipped another car... scared the hell out of me n have never driven it since (im fully insured as long as my other half sits next to me) but knowing we wouldnt be able to replace it and now our insurance payments are at an all time low Im terrified of messing that up so have refused to drive for the last 12 months. Instead goin for proffesional lessons and when I pass one way or another I shall be buying me a clapped out Fiesta to gain confidence in.
My next door neighbour went out and brought a new car when she passed... couple of months later I wish I was exxagerrating when I said It looks like its been in a car rally pmsl! sooo many dents! I not sure what they did to it though but looks like lots of polly filler and a respray (of course it would I am sure be something more substantial than poly filler) but thats how she got round it. Really learnt me a lesson though not worth it!
