just baught my first snake, he was very passive but today struck at me. I was calm and removed my hand slowly and he backed off.

No further sign of any defensive behaviour.

I think he might be at the start of shedding?

His skin is dull, between his scales he seems quite white. any advice folks?

does sound like a shed - and sum snakes can show aggressive behaviour during the shedding process ( i have 1 myself!) but how new is he? as this can contribute to a snake been aggressive until it has settled, a weeks hands off period is usually the normal advice for a new snake so they have time to settle :)

Thanks!

He is 2 yrs old and 4ft. I handled him at his previous owners and he was very gentle.

I started to let him run over my hand after afew days in the tank and he was a little nervous but then became nosy LOL.

Today he was quite defensive, i think he might be ready as he is also not eating and he is due a feed.

Thanks for the advice, just want to ensure he is ok
