if u do go down the infra red route, 2 problems u may have is infra red bulbs generally come as a screw fit, you can get adaptors to change the fixings, but also infra red give off alot of heat and are best used with ceramic fittings |

yeah should be fine, as long as it gets up to the correct temperature i dont see why it should be a problem |

I have a wooden viv and a normal 60 watt spot bulb is more than capable of doing the job and because wood is so good at keeping in the heat it also holds the temperature perfectly for night time temps too. No heat mat but suppose it depends on the temperature of the room your keeping them in. Best bet isget a good thermometer set up and if you dont have the snake yet, try 60 watt if its not strong enough go up a bit until you find the right one. And dont forget to guard and stat your bulb. |

if you don't want to use a heat mat and just a bulb, then forget about using a regular bulb as you will still need heat during the night so a ceramic emitter is the other choice.
To use one of these, there are a few other essentials: Ceramic bulb holder, heat resistant cable, pulse thermostat. These are due to the intense heat these things kick out.
The other option is have a look at AHS (advanced heating system) - I can't comment on how these are used because I don't have any experience of them. |
