right now i know how big and what my sons snake now weighs im starting to think hes not been getting enough food
he is 3 foot 3inches weighs 215g and is about 2 years old
he has been fed on fluffs, i gave him his first one on friday which he grabbed very quickly and it was gone quickly and i looked for a bulge but must admit dont think there was one
i weighed the frozen mouse and it was 12g so def seems to be a fluff it is 1.5 inch in length not including the tail
i have not yet meauresed the thickest part of sonic so will do that tomorrow
would he be ready for the next size up which im pretty sure is a small mouse?
or would it best to feed 2 fluffs for a while
thanks

I'd try him on two fluffs at the next feed. If he keeps them down without any problems and is pooing and his normal self then I'd give him two for the next couple of feeds. Again if he keeps them down and is ok I would then move up a size.
That's how I've always moved up a size with mine and I've never had any problems, touch wood!
Hope that helps.

your snake is the same size in length as my colin, same age too and colin is on two mediums every seven days.

if thats a pic of him in your siggy then he's not underweight :) At that age and size he will easily eat a medium mouse every week so I'd personally go straight for that.

thats good thats hes not underweight, i was worrying when i looked at the guide on here(even though i know its only a guide) it still worried me slightly that he isnt getting enough food, i shall try 2 fluffs to start with on next feed, his head seems to small to eat anything bigger nut im sure he could manage!

There is a danger of falling into that trap. Its easy to think no way when you look at the size of the mouse in comparison to their head but its amazing to see what they actually can cram in. I still think that when i give colin his medium and xena her fuzzies. I still every week say thats a bit big when i get xenas fuzzies and every week she proves me wrong by gobbling down two of them.
Are you sure itss fluffs you are giving him as I am with eeji looking at his pic he looks big enough to tackle a medium with ease.

cheers

steve

sarahw, not to complain but your signature is huuuuugee.

I'd feel two fluffs until you all of them are gone in your freezer. When they are gone, I'd up the size.

My corn is not yet a year and 24", weighing 60g, and he is on 2 fluffs a week o.o If yours is that large, perhaps he is on too small a food, and though you may not see it currently, he may start to drop weight quite quickly soon? Perhaps after your trial of two fluffs, try hoppers/crawlers/sub-adults (all the same thing, just different names, generally around 8-12g I believe)?

He looks in that photo to be pretty large! You really shouldn't worry about the size of the food, it can be up to 1.5x bigger then size of their head, and they'll still happily cope with it! I was worried about that with Ripley when I first moved him up to fluffs, but he takes them fine now, and has just moved up to large fluffs (6-7g a go). I'm not as experienced as some of the guys here, who are suggesting mediums, so perhaps that should ideally be the next stage? Iunno ^^ Does just seem that he is far too large for fluffs, unless you are meaning hoppers?

http://anfrozenfoods.co.uk/#/mice/4532624648 this site give a nice guide to the size of mices although, not all frozen rodent places have the same guide lines. The size sounds right but the weight doesn't to me? Seem like very chunky fluffs lol

also i thought that the hoppers were another name for fluffs not bigger than the fluffs,
what ive got wrote down for sizing is
pinkie
fuzzie
fluff
small adult
large adult

From what I've seen there are plenty of different names for all of the different sizes, though fluff is a new one to me in relation to hoppers! Fluff is usually another name for fuzzies, as far as I've experienced anyway, lol! The site Stapey has provided is good for getting to know what the most common names are, as well as the most common size/weights of them! As long as the mouse is what you would consider sub-adult in size/look, then it is probably hoppers you are feeding, and you could possibly move up to adults of the small or medium size ^^

Meant to add, either way, it looks like you're doing fine with them! He looks healthy and seems a good size!

Your snake is a very similar size to my oldest snake.

Stella is 3' 6" approx and 200g.

She has just gone onto large mice these last couple of weeks. Before that she had 5 feeds of 2 x Small mice.

She is now on 1 large mouse every 7 days, weighing about 20g per mouse.

Hope this helps
