hi gaz yeah that has helped the fact that yours weighs less than sonic confirms he is on the wrong sized mouse. i think i may pop along to my local shop and see what sizes there mice are to see if they can confirm what size mice i currently have, i have 2 of the size that hes been having so could get a rough idea i think so if hes on fuzzies then is the next size up small? i was told that the fuzzies are the same size as the fluffs as they are just different names for them |

If what you are feeding is 12g then it's a fluff.
Smaller than fluff is fuzzy.
Larger than fluff is small mouse.
If I was you then I would offer two of what he's on now for a few feeds, then move up to say a 15g small mouse. Then stay on them for few months.
But this is just my opinion and how I do things.

thas great just the answer i was looking for, from what i had read i thought that was the right order and weight but there is alot of conflicting info plus some places call em different names and they vary in size. the conformation that he is on fluffs is what i needed to know now i know what size to go up to, hes due for a feed friday so will give him his remaining 2 fluffs so hopefully all goes well, which i think it will do as last fri he seemed to eat it so quick so must be getting hungrier bless him thank you :-) |

No worries. I'm glad I can help. I'm still pretty new to the reptile world, only got my first snake 12 months ago. But learnt alot in a short space.
Different people call mouse sizes different things, this is what I call them...
Pinkies Fuzzies Fluffs (also hoppers/crawlers) Small Medium Large Jumbo

No worries.
That's a nice looking snake you got by the way.
I purchased a 8 week old anery last month, but looking at pics on here I am beginning to think he is a normal/Carolina.
I will put pics up tomorrow for confirmation.

Don't worry about what the different sizes are called at this point. If you go to the same supplier each time just feed two of the same size for a couple of feeds and if your snake doesn't regurge then move up to the next size your supplier does. The reason I say this is because different suppliers call the mice different names, as you can tell from the replies you've got here...i.e differing names for the same size mouse! Hope I haven't confused you even more!
Edit to add PM me if you need this clarifying |

Sid is 3 years old and has just hit the 3 foot mark. She seems ok with 1 medium mouse every 7 days, she won't take a second feed or go onto a larger mouse, not 100% sure but I think she was somewhere in the region of 257g the last time I weighed her, I'll have to look it up when I get home as I keep a full record of all feeds, weights, lengths and sheds, and she was 92cm long (about 3 foot).
So for 2 years old I'd say sonic is doing just fine. If you keep a detailed log of how he's doing then you will soon notice if he's loosing any weight. |

Fluffs don't weight 12g or mine certainly don't. That's more hopper/small mouse size I would have thought? And fluffs and fuzzies are the same thing in a lot places. If in doubt, ask if you can take a good look at the food.

I am with Herriotfan on this! Dont worry about what they are called as it just confuses you !! As long as you are using the same supplier then you can just go up in size as they do when necessary.
What you must be careful of it moving him up too quickly in size....his stomach needs to be prepared for the larger prey item, which it is why it is a good idea to give him 2 of 'whatever they are' for a few feeds and then move up to the next size. All you have to be careful of is that when you move him up his 'dinner's' girth is not bigger than 1.5 times the girth of Sonic's widest part....but I dont think that will be a problem!
Silvesta was 2 medium mice once a week (supposedly) when I got him and he was about Sonic's age, weight and length. I didnt trust the owner and he was certainly skinny, which is why I say supposedly. I continued with that and he put on weight nicely, moving up to large mice when he was ready.
Obviously Sonic cant jump straight from where he is to medium mice! Just move him up slowly over time....it is much better to do it that way than try and power feed him.
Sonic looks lovely and healthy so I dont think you have too much to worry about....just follow your common sense as to what to do regarding his food and he will be fine .
