If you look on the general keeping section there is a sticky about setting up for a hatchling 101 guide. That gives you a super step by step guide on how to set up a small container for hatchlings. Not sure if that's what you wanted to know but it might help! |

I've talked about this before on here, but I once had a plastic thing for my hatchling, unfortunately the heat mat melted straight through the bottom. The pet store said it would be fine, and they even placed the mat on the bottom for me. I havn't heard of this happening to anyone else though...but if I ever got another plastic one I would be checking every 10 minutes!

You mean like they put the heat mat inside the RUB?
Don't think they should do that - as far as I know RUB should sit ON TOP OF heat mat - correct me if I'm wrong, anybody.
At risk of being boring: BATS' tip for melting holes in RUB - heat phillips' screwdriver on gas ring and just melt holes - goes through like butter. |

About my rub, the heat mat was underneath it not inside it, and melted the hole :\ I did take iit back and spoke to the manager, and he went mental at the chap who sold it me, because aparently he had done it on more than one occasion.
I got a nice free tank, bark, leaves and hide though ;D |

Woooo makes you wonder about unstatted heat mats, yet again ...
Why the **** can't they sell these things with heat control, like electric blankets, as has been said before ... |

I don't understand Rach. Why would the manager go mad about you using a heatmat for a rub? Was the rub a proper one and not a cheaper version? I'm going to have to keep an eye out for this as i'm not using a stat. I've noticed the plastic underneath is slightly warped now. |

Maybe I could have a piece of card intween the heat mat and the container bottom , I'm thinking of putting it outside and underneath the container. The card would absorb some of the heat I guess and stop the container from potentially melting ?? |

Mine is outside. If you look on the instructions on the rub it tells you the heat resistance is.I think it's 80 but i expect you can go slight over that.Well i am and i'm checking it everyday. |

Any rub could melt depending on the heat source. If your mat had a thermostat, then I am incredibly surprised it melted the plastic tub. If it didn't have a thermostat then I'd say that is another good bit of evidence to show how hot they can get unstat'd. |

I dont know if it was a proper one or a cheap one, they told me it was perfectly safe. I hadnt got it statted either because I hadnt even got my snake then, I was still setting everything up and testing things. The temp was 82 in the tank so I have no idea why it got so bad :\ |
