from what i have seen/read, sexing is something that is best left to a pro. you can seriously injure your snake if you do it incorrectly |

popping is quite a reliable method of sexing but is easy to do wrongly and damage the snake............. |

The people on Youtube make it look easy.I understand you don't need to apply much pressure. There was even a kid of about 10 years old doing it? Maybe i get someone more experienced to do it for me.Cheers anyway. |

better to be safe. most rep shops do it for free or for a very small cost. |

most breeders will pop their hatchies to sex them, as a small-time hobby-breeder myself i prefer to get somebody else to do it
is the person/shop you're buying it from not able to do it? |

I've never done it, purely because I could harm him. That girl you're on about, if it's the same one I've seen, her parents know about reptiles I think so she was probably taught. Can't you ask the place you're buying it from to do it. unless it's a crappy pet store don't bother. |

This was a young American boy. They say it's safe to pop them up untill they reach a certain age or length. I'm gonna give it a miss now in case i get it wrong. |

get on good terms with your LRS by regularly going in for supplies and frozen food then ask if they'll do it for you |

As above, you can easily cause damage that will very quickly lead to death. I do it, but I was shown how to do it by my local rep shop owner with a handful of differant species. |

The owner of my LRS has been breeding for 20 years, I'm told, but he prefers to probe when they are big enough. I've seen a video of Kathy Love popping hatchlings and she makes it look very easy, but, although it would be nice to know, it isn't really so very urgent a question, when you think about it, unless you are buying a rare morph for breeding purposes, of course.
I know it gets really funny when you've got used to calling a snake 'he' or 'she' and it turns out to be the opposite (been there done that ...)
Specially when it's a girl called Fred or a boy named Sue! |

If you really want to know the sex then get it done by somebody experienced in the art of popping. Do you have a local reptile centre near you? Like others have said they will sex your snake free of charge or some tiny sum. Let us know what you've got if you do manage to find a good source to sex him/her. Photos too please!!! |

As everyone has said, unless you have been shown many times, in the flesh, videos are good but they dont show you the whole picture, nearly everyone pops and probes differently, there are also a few things that can make for a more dangerous situation, the snake may object and turn and bite, they very often cr*p on you. The amount of pressure required when done right is very small, much harder and you could do some really serious damage. Its also very important to know what you are looking for when popping, a partial popped male is similar to a fully popped female, so you have to be certain.
