When we bought Salizars vivarium we bought it as a complete set up, its a 2ft wooden viv with glass sliding doors, the reptile centre said that you need a wooden one for insulation, and came with heat mat, thermostat, hide, bowl, and two sorts of plants, this came to £190. since being on here I have found out that I can do my next one cheaper I wanted two snakes but it took me a long time to save up for the viv.
Ive told my mum that i can use a RUB and that a lot o people here use them, so she has said as long as I am sure that I ask about if I have to set up the box any different as it would be plastic rather than wood, and also which heat mats and thermostats others use, I can get my next snake later this year rather than next year when I have saved up £200 again.

really hope you dont mind me asking these questions

i use rubs for my snake :)

i put the heat mat under 1/3 of the rub, inside same as a viv, 2 hides 1 on hot 1 on cool side, water bowl ect.. u will still need a stat, i use a mat stat, also make sure u put lots of holes in the rub for ventilation :)

It's all down to preference - and rubs are definitely cheaper.

BATS' tip for putting airholes in rubs:

Heat a phillips' screwdriver on oven ring.

Melt holes in plastic. Goes through like butter.

Good idea for making holes! I just used a drill and sandpaper for my lunchbox that I used for feeding. Prob would have been better off with your method!
