Ok so I dont have so much money to spend on setting up my snake, so I need to know are there any downsides to using RUB's and if so what are they? My plan is jus to get one for a couple of months until I can afford a viv or until christmas and get someone else to buy one for me. Lol. Thanks. Tiffany-x |

They can be hard to put air holes in, and some plastic boxes have annoying feet but with the brand "RUBS" there should be a problem. |
A very special super, duper thanks for K :3 |

Ok, thank you for an answer. Maybe getting my dad to put the holes in would be an idea then if I was to use one and it would be a good idea to go in shops to look at them to make sure they dont have feet. Thanks. Tiffany-x |

Real "RUBS" are okay for drilling air holes , I drill all mine . Often people will say there is no need even for that because the real "RUBS" have a gap all the way round the top of the lid .
I can't really see any downside except for the "attractiveness" of how a RUB looks like next to a viv , rubs can be easily moved and cleaned and can be set up as good as a viv . Heat mats on the outside instead of the inside . I love em .
Put mat on outside with the probe on the mat , take the temp inside the rub on the floor over the mat and set the stat , this means the rub can be moved about with no trailing wires or removing probes etc .
They are not as clear as glass etc but you can still see easily enough through them .
No need for viv locks , they self lock .
I have 2 viv's left which are about to become RUBS , I just prefer them .

Drilling holes I don't find a problem - I heat up a phillips scrwdriver on a gas ring and use it to melt holes. Goes through like butter. |

Yeah, as to last sentence, I didn't post because I couldn't say anything useful about downsides of rubs - felt it was all down to preference. But I Do know about melting holes ...
Off topic here, Mnementh, but where does that quote come from, the one in your sig? It haunts me every time I read it. It reminds me of a book I've read, but I know it isn't in that particular book. I'd be really pleased to know. |

Then you may have read the Pern novels by Anne McCaffrey .
My name Mnementh is F'lar's bronze dragon .
The quote is from "Moreta : Dragonlady of pern" quite a sad moment . |

Ah, no, believe it or not, I've never read any Anne McCaffrey, despite having worked in a library and bookshop ... hmm, new reading!
The book it reminded me of is Gabriel King's 'The Golden Cat', which has a predecessor, 'The Wild Road' - which I haven't read yet. Bits of Golden Cat are distressing, but author does know about cats! I had a cat like 'Sealink' and the names of some of the characters are great - there is a fox called 'Loves a Dustbin' and the Tandoori Magpie ...
I have a cat called Finn and a snake called Cy - named before reading book.
Oh dear, sorry Tiffany, hijacking your thread - don't get me started about books! Thanks for that, Mnementh. |

B&Q do some really big ones- four feet long at least at rough guess - but I don't know how secure the lids would be - didn't look that closely. |

Can I just hear your views on what size you would use and if that size is big enough? Thanks. Tiffany-x |

Ah, sorry - it's only just come back to me - I believe you can order bigger sizes from Staples - I don't know whether these are the proper RUBs or Staples' own brand. I think it's a case of they get them in to your order and you collect them from the store. There might be a website? |

Yeah 145 litre ones (28x21.5x16 inches) I found too but they are 35 quid, I may as well buy myself a viv at that price. LMFAO! Tiffany-x |

I have adults in 64 litre rubs and 50 litre rubs , the 50 litres are plenty big enough , 64 litre is the same footprint but a little higher . I have just bought a couple of 33 litres , again the same footprint but lower than the 50 litres .
They are like £10 or so .
You really dont need 145 litre :)
What part of the UK you in ? |

Ok thank you, well lets go for East Midlands because I live somewhere in the middle of Nottingham Derby and Leicester. All 3 places are easily reachable for me. I think I will go for 64 litre in that case. Thanks. Tiffany-x |

Ahh okay , I just found a very cheap real "RUB" seller , I think I paid £7 each for the 33's , the 18's cost almost £9 in a shop .
But this is in the North East . |
