Hi every one. Yes I am banging on about wood again but I have had a thought (which dosnt happen often) I have found a log that I would like to use in my viv but it wont fit in the oven so what if I put it in the dish washer a few times without cleaner, would this kill the bugs? or what about a paint burner gun?? ideas would help if these would not work.

Paint burner gun might be too hot!! oooooops  IF we ever get any sun then the old bleach solution followed by a very thorough rinse and a day or two in hot sun would work. Hope that helps.  |

You can use a bleach solution in the bath, that will work.
You have to be certain its all rinsed off tho. |

I was told to leave it in there for a couple of hours on a hot temp but not that hot that it burns the wood. Hope that helps Luke

100-120 degree C should do it, for about an hour or so.
I tend to do mine in the evening, then turn the oven on and go to bed as it leaves the wood in the hot oven on the cool down period as well. |

Must admit that all my wood has fit into the oven....done it at 160oC for an hour after treating it.
Mike knows what he is talking about though Steve....so if he says it is ok to use the bleach solution, making sure it is very well rinsed afterwards, then I would trust that advice.

I found it easier to buy treated wood from the pet shop, I thought to sand it before treating though? |

My OH sanded a lovely branch for Kellog's viv....the only problem was he did such a good job that Kellog couldnt get a grip on it and kept sliding off  ....so now it is just something I get out for him to play on sometimes when I need a laugh  !!

What do I treat wood with??
I use sandpaper and the oven. So far I'm quite lucky in that I have access to a VERY large oven and anything up to the size of a small tree I can probably 'cook'. |
