I've just had a Monkfield viv arrive (after the first one arrived broken), and wondered if someone could help me out? I know the heat mat should go between the glass at the bottom, but the glass has a piece of polystyrene in between it, and not sure if it should be removed, or does the heat mat go on top of it? Probably s dumb question but have searched the internet and none the wiser

It should have a thin board at the bottom and then polystyrene on top of that and then there should be two pieces of glass on top of that which the mat goes inbetween.

I like these too, but wondered if there is enough 'height' in them. They are only 6 inches high and i've seen pics of snakes stretching themselves higher than that. Will the snake care if it can't go upwards at all?

From what I've read a 30" will be too big for a hatchie as they don't like big spaces. the 18" is better for a hatchling. This is my dilemma, you can get a 9litre RUB for £6 which has just as much space as the 18" monkfield and at some point you are going to have to get a bigger viv anyway.

I'm starting with RUB's then my plan is to get the extra large, which is 36" x 15" x 8" so will house a bigger corn for a fair while

I'm getting one soon. Probably sounds daft but although Neidr is long he isn't that wide and I'm paranoid about the sliding glass on a viv! How long did it take to arrive from blue reptiles?

I got it from Bluelizard Reptiles, and it arrived within 3-4 days of being ordered. Only problem was the first one was badly handled by TNT, so the glass had cracked. They were very good about it, and sent me a replacement very quickly. I bought the 24" one, and it's 8" high, so quite roomy. Falco is in a 30x30x30 exo terra, and is about 26" now, so I'm sure he'll appreciate the extra space

i think i will go for the 24" one two, do you know if it will fit Exo Terra Snake Cave Medium in? & Exo Terra Hide Out Cave small? one for the cool end ad one for the hot end? then i am going to get some kind of plant and a water bowl?

what size heat matt will you need for 24" monkfild?

do you think that will all fit in ok and oke for a new hatchie snake?

i know you can get the RUB alot cheaper and does just the same job but i think these look alot more smart and better to view your snake in. + i think they r good to keep the heat in.

THANKS

i will get the same.

you know on the viv you have a hole in the back to fit wires in for the temp probe etc, does this stretch as i am getting a thermometer with 2 sensors... was thinking 1 for the warm end and 1 for the cold? or do you think i will need that or do i get 1 with just 1 sensor? if you get what i mean lol

sorry about all the questions but it my first snake and i want to make sure i got the correct stuff.

cheers

I've just set it up, and have 2 x medium exo hides that fit well, in fact the next size up will also be a good fit. The rubber 'bung' thing that covers the hole for the stat probe does stretch, but I managed to stretch it right out of the hole lol. I got the stat probe through, but couldn't squeeze the thermometer probe, so just fitted them inside the viv. I put one at either end, but against the glass so I could see them easily. I just put a little sealant on the bottom and side of the thermometers, and stuck them on the wood. I bought the 11"x11" heat mat and it's a good size for the 24" viv. I expect Falco to be in there at least a year, then my smallest can move into it and Falco can go into the stack

The viv comes with a hole already fitted for the stat, and a rubber thing to put the probe through that fills the hole and saves having to seal it in case of escape. I used some sealant to fit the rubber thing in place after fitting the stat probe through it, probably not necessary but I like to be safe
