I was wondering how many people have seen their snakes shed, up close?
I ask this because my thrystic, Sid, was due to shed about 4-5 days ago.
She had gone through the 'blue eye', and she'll normally pop her skin about 2 days afterward clearing up.
But this time, she had been about 5 days after blue eye cleared and still hadn't shed, but I could see she should of.
Anyway, off into a nice bath for ten mins she went.
I drained the bath, picked her up and put her in her towel, yes she has her OWN towel, I trundled off downstairs, to watch telly for 10 mins and let her climb over me, as you do.
She started rubbing her nose along my t-shirt near my stomach so I knew what was going on.
I just left her to it, and i was amazed myself, even though i've seen my snakes shed their skins, it was a completely different and bizzare feeling to have mine use my shirt, arms and leather sofa to help shed.
Another thing it done, is my missus can't stand them, and even she sat enthralled by it, along with comments of 'ugh' and 'that's disgusting' she still enjoyed it. Might help my argument for more now.

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? or am I in the lucky few??

My snakes normally wait until night time as well, i've seen them shedding in the darkness before, but never that close.

it was a brilliant experience to see it that close, and to take over the part of her cork bark that they normally use.

the only thing that i would say, is that it made me think about getting a new phone, as it would've been brilliant to film it.

The closest I've got is catching one of mine near the end of the process. I've never seen the full thing.

You lucky bugger!

After saying mine only ever sheds in the dead of night, i got up this morning to see Jake scratching his nose on a rock in his viv and realised what was happening so i pulled up a chair and sat and watched him shed completely within 5 minutes. Made me late for work but well worth it, what an amazing thing to watch and the colours after always look fantastic.

I saw my corn shed the first time she shed since i got her. It was amazing, lasted around 5-10 mins. At first i didnt understand what was going on cos she was rubbing up against everything then i noticed a patch coming off her head! I really wanted to help because it looked such a struggle but i left her to it and it came off in one piece. The noise of the skin coming off was awesome aswell, kind of a ripping/scrapping sound, hard to explain but an excellent experience

heya guys, am new to this forum but i have had my corn snake since she was 6 months old, she is now nearly 1 1/2 years old and one thing i have noticed recently is that when she is shedding it takes her ages! she usually get the head to about half way up her body removed in 10 mins but the rest is stuck on there for weeks and she doesnt seem to be trying to get it off. i have tried putting her in the bath but whenever is try she goes a bit loopy! any suggestion would be great, thanks x

she has access to logs, branches, trees, woodchippings, and water in her vivarium so its not like she cant use anything to help her.

If she doesn't like the bath so much make sure the water is a warm (not hot or cold) this may help - If she still doesn't like it try and increase the humidity in the viv (put a larger water bowl in and spray her with a spray bottle.

We have a large bowl filled with moss which is wet we put in when shedding - seems to help loads.

Rosa is currently shedding but is having trouble with it, she has managed to get off about an inch but rest seems stuck, we have tried batching her tonight, but she doesnt feel right, she feels abit floppy and spongy. i know that sounds daft but thats the only way i can describe it. any advise would be welcomed.

Did you tell your boss why you were late? I work for 8 radio stations and one of our DJs found an article about the oddest reasons to be late to work. None of them were "I was watching my snake shed"
