I got my first corn yesterday, whos only a young-un. He's about to shed at the moment as his eyes have hazed over, but he's been curled up in his little hidey-hole and only come out once so far, which was yesterday evening. Is this normal behaviour. The thermometer is also only reading around 22/23 degrees celcius, although he has a heat mat etc. and he's sleeping 'half and half' over the warm and cool sides of the viv. I hope it's not too cool for him? I can't help worrying as I don't want him to be unwell in anyway, and I hope he's ok at the moment??? Soz it's a long message!

They do hide as they are secretive by nature.

Allow the snake to settle in & shed it's skin. Try not to handle it. You can help by spraying room temp water in the evning or just let go into a moist hide. Keep this at the hot end of the viv. Temp at the hot end should be up to 30*C.

I think your snake will be fine if you get the temp up.

My message is longer

Aye, as Money says, you're running too cool. Not unusual for them to be shy early on either.

Depends where your thermometer is, if its low down in the hot end that's the right place for it to be so it's definitely too cool. If the thermometer's half way up the side of the viv or in the middle you won't get an accurate reading so if this is the case either re-site your thermometer or regularly check it with a hand-held one.
As for being shy, sometimes I don't see any of mine for days but there's poop to scoop all over the vivs so they've obviously been active overnight when the lights are out

Thanks all! George seems quite happy and settled in now, especially as he's now shed. Spoke to my specialist supplier and sorted out the temperature thing! I'm new to this forum thing so hopefully I'll get to know more snake fanatics??
Cheers,
Charlie

the practice of Nichiren Buddhism consists of chanting the phrase "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo" together with passages of something called the 'Lotus Sutra'. This 'proceedure' is known as 'Gongyo', which is done daily, ideally twice, if you can of course. The phrase basically means 'the mystic law of life' and the word "nam" means taking action. it all sounds pretty mad I know, but that's the official definition. you can always visit the SGI-UK website. Buddhists don't believe in any kind of god or anything - we're 'athiests'. i'm not a weirdo - promise!

Yeah, I agree with the rest of them, I had the exact same problem when I got Mojo, maybe best to keep an eye on the temp. and if nothing changes maybe get a stonger bulb to increase the temp, dont worry its just your snake tryin to settle down, leave him to it n hell come round eventually!! :)

I have 3 corns and all totally different in character, one is a girl and very friendly as as soon as you open her viv up she is over and usually comes out but the other two both tend to hide away until night or when they are hungry and that is it,

I would have to say most of my snakes were pretty laid back but there were a couple that would not be happy with me disturbing them, but became more relaxed once out of their viv.
