here is the dimensions for the smaller viv.
plus you will need:
1 piece of conti board fron B&Q was about £20 and they did all the cutting. 1x roll of edging strip £2 2x glass doors £2 tracks are expensive and hard to get. tryed every where then found some at homebase £3 quid a metre you need 4mm and 6mm for top and bottom. £6 1x soffit vent (pack of 6) £5
total about £33
888 reptiles sell them at £54 flat packed in my local shop they are £80+ http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productsubcategories.php?category=Housing&subcategory=Wooden%20Vivariums
just built 36x18x18 for about £42 and in my local shop they are £110
only a little saving but i think its worth it

That's perspex and still £1.65 for 1, so £3.30 for a pair. Want to find the cheap glass ones! Then I may think about building my own again. |

find a good glass place. small ones do them cheap i would have thought, or buy a large piece and cut it yourself.
my dad gets me my doors off a friend. just ordered 2x 45cm x 38cm so will see if it was a one off cheap purchase. |

Cheers Daz, it was a small place I went to though and they charged a lot more. Either you've found a really good place or your Dad's got mates rates ;) |

Hi all, have been looking into building my own viv, but don't need one at the moment as my corns are still very young. the pictures from the origanal post appear to have been removed so cannot see them, but have some questions to those who have built there own. when you look at modern vivs in shops there appear to mostly have a glass lower plinth which the slidding glass doors sit on, instead of the older style wooden lower plinth. i quite like the glass lower plinth idea, but requires a special lower door runner which sits on the lower glass plinth. Does anyone know where you can buy this style of runner. secondly what originaly put me off was the price i was quoted for two glass doors in 6mm with ground edges, to fit a 36in viv, they quoted me £60. at the time didn't seem worth making the effort. i will have to get a quote from a small glass supplier and see if the previous was just ripping me off. dread to think what they would have quoted if i had said yes to the offer of them grinding out finger grooves for handles. Just need to find these special lower runners. Thanks in advance for your replies. |

I bought a sheet of perspex 1500mm x 600mm from B&Q last year for just under a tenner, that was 3mm thickness though.
I'll be going to get some more in the next couple of days, need to make a window for my car so i'll let you know how much my local B&Q has it. I'd imagine every one has the same prices. |

I looked at 3mm thickness but it flexed too much for my liking
