Hi everybody, new to the forum.

I have previously kept spiders, rats, fish, rodents and dogs and have been mulling over the idea of buying a snake for the last few weeks. I have done tireless research into 2 species - king and corn and they both seem pretty similar to me.

Can anybody tell me the mains differences between the 2 species and perhaps recommends one over the other for a beginner (yes I know this is a corn snake forum). Cheers.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

There is also the sister forum to this www.thekingsnake.co.uk/forum

The species have very similar needs but Corns tend to be more placid.

Corns are seen very much as the perfect begginer snake. They vary rarly bite and miss a feed. kings are supossedly more feisty but having not owned one I cant speak from experience. They are simular to care for.

I would say kings take a little bit more care, just because of their feistiness. You have to be more careful when getting them out of their vivs and stuff.

They also seem to take more cleaning because they musk on you and their surroundings if they aren't feeling secure.

Apart from that, they are pretty similar.

...but get a corn if you don't feel confident enough for a king. You'll have nothing to worry about with a corn. So easy.

Yes musking can be a problem as I found out this evening with my King- he hissed at his fluff and then sprayed musk everywhere the dirty litle ****!

I'd probably recommend a corn as a first snake for all the above reasons but royals are pretty easy too (and there's theroyalpython.co.uk) they're easily handleable but can be fussy feeders at first (but I think I've got Queenie sussed out now!). Also highly under-rated are Dumerils boas

Kaz and Lewy, could you do theDumerilsboa.co.uk just for me? I'm quite happy to talk to myself (as nobody else seems to have them, lol)

It's basically watery excrement that they shoot out at things when they are scared and threatened to try and scare you off. They also do it to mark their territory. Dirty really, but effective

I just had an extremly dirty thought, which is not suitable for members under 18. It is highly pornographic.
