I am tryin to get over handling lil mojo
was gonna try the gloves technique, so he gets used to me and me used to him and how he moves, never really held a snake before.
My question is, what kind of gloves? dont wanna hurt him or anything.
His 1st feed with me is tomorrow and I'm excited yet nervous as poo, think these might help ease me in  |

Welding gloves should do. Or if he's really small (Hatchling) thin gloves shoulder do, just normal generic gloves.
Baby Corns aren't really snappy (Unless shedding) so, you should be fine without the gloves. As long as you're confident, you should be fine.
The gloves technique in experiance has been used with generally REALLY snappy snakes. |

I personally would avoid thick gloves. With these you wont get a very good grip on such a small snake and it will make it harder for you to control him.
Id say you'll be fine with no gloves. Like Josh said, just be confident.

I would agree, corns rarely bite and if they do it's like a pin *****. Gloves would stop you grasping the snake properly and you wouldn't enjoy it much.

When I first got into snakes, I was extremely wary where to pick up the snake as a hatchling. The tail is a very delicate area, due to their genitals. Don't want to give them an early-life-vasectomy do ya'? xD.
Go towards the middle of it's length and then support it with both hands then. Grow bigger balls made of steel! |

I was gonna start with a hatchling, start small, to get over a slight fear of holding them, but I fell for this snake and possibly bit off more than I was ready for.
I will keep trying to hold him, but I think I have something wrong in my brain lol. I held him briefly just before, and I was shaking like a leaf. I am gettin rather frustrated with myself. I'm a 33 yr old bloke, shaking coz I got an small 8mth old corn snake in my hand...wtf???
I know he doesn't want to hurt me, I can see that as he shows no agression to me at all. Even if he did bite me, I know it wouldn't be that bad, I can deal with pain, so I have NO idea wtf is wrong...
Sorry for the rant, just wanna be like you guys and be able to enjoy my snake. aaarrrggghhhhh!!

happens to the best of us mate, tbph the reason I sold my milk snake was partially due to the fact I was too scared to handle her after he went throug ha phase of rather vicious bitings. But I'm over it now :) I Actually went through about 2 months where I was afraid of all snakes, but my matse python helped me get confident again

Nothing to be embarrased about mate.
I have always loved snakes, well most animals actually. Had many pets since I was a kid, but I think because its a "SNAKE" and totally new to me, pushing me out of my comfort zone, its just all clumsy at the minute, if you know what I mean. Holding a snake seems to be a skill which I dont have yet... I know that he cant hurt me, but he is obviously nervous and that makes me nervous, and we scare each other lol, he jumps, which makes me jump and that makes him panic and jumpy etc etc etc lol
Just gonna keep at it.
Feeding time tonight, so fingers crossed, it goes smoothly ;) |

good luck mate. and I was like that when I first got Tartan (she was a tangerine honduran milk)
I was 15, had only ever stroked a snake and barley knew anything about keeping them, but a lot about their actual anatomy etc cause I grew up surrounded by Irwin etc. So I hadnled her in the shop, and never stopeed :P After a while she would be perfectly happy to hang around my neck for up to an hour. Then one day out of the blue she bit me and kept biting me. I think it was most hte fact that I trusted her and it's that misjudgment of trust that made me edgy.
It's like if you trust a dog then it bites you for no reason. I found it hard to trust her again and made myself all silly and scared :P Such a teenage way to go about tings really now I think about it lol!
But now I hav e my lizards and I'm happy, although I know that if he one of thme decided to bite me it'd hurt a damn sight mor ethan a snaky! |

| Don't worry Mick, with snakes it's not like taming a dog. It's a trust issue with 'em. If you feel that you can't bring yourself to handling it yet, and think it's wary of you and going to bite. Leave it 1-2 weeks. Come into contact with it only feeding & Water. (Possibly the odd spot cleaning.) Then you can be more assure about it trusting you, and letting itself be handled. |
