you could invest a small amount in a digi thermometer, the dial ones are not very good for giving accurate temps..

If the temperature is reading 84f 4 inches above the substrate then your temperature must be way too high. It should be reading about 84 on the substrate. Put the thermometer probe on the substrate.

wow, thats amazing value. it is probarbly worth getting one of those, but ill wait till he moves into the larger viv first...

I got one of these after seeing it mentioned on here. Excellent thermometer at a great price and really fast shipping.
I would recommend them to anyone.

same here, just a cheap garden thermometer from a garden centre

cornsnakes, ratsnakes, bullsnakes, boas and day geckos
