Bella is having her first feed right now. We were told she was on fuzzies so we've given her one but she seems to be taking her time about it - almost half an hour so far. She's constricting so much her fuzzy burst and there is now fuzz-goo over her tank *sigh* Is this normal or should we reduce her to pinkies? Will she stop if it's too big or just keep trying until she injures herself?
*fretting* |

Well she's eaten it... She looks a bit plump and surprised but it's in. I think we'll get some pinkies because that was quite distressing! |

Crap. she's regurgitating it. OK, is this going to cause her harm? What should we do?? |

Is it 1/1.5x her widest part?
Mine occasionally has trouble getting it down, due to legs getting in the way etc; but I've never had a regurge.. So I can't really say. How long did you leave her till you fed her? If you just got her, amongst other things.. Stress can sometimes lead to a regurge..

She did seem to have trouble with the front legs. I've a feeling that either her previous owner doesn't know what he was feeding her, or the shop sold us the wrong size. I have a photo of her just clamping on:
She seems to have eaten again now though - she thrashed about a bit and the tail came back out but now it's gone back in! God I'm going to be worrying all night...!

It does look HUGE compared to her!
Try 2 pinkies for a while before she thickens up and gets a bit longer. I just fed mine his first weaner after previous feed of 3 fluffs which took him about 15 mins. (was 2 fluffs weekly but had 3 as i couldnt feed him for 2 weeks as not in the country)
HTH but wait untill someone with more knowledge |

Does look a bit big for the snake, if its gone down now then you shouldn't need to worry too much, like alreayd mentiond above try her on 2 pinkies for a while, some pet shops might not think its worth feeding 2 pinks and just ell you to feed the size above, but it does make it alot easier on the snake :) |

Yeah, it does look pretty big in the first picture. It might be worth doing what hillzi mentioned, and go down to 2 fuzzies :) |

Yep. From the first pic it looks far too big. Leave the snake alone for 10 days and then try it on 2 pinkies. |

Great, thanks everyone. She's lying on her heat mat now, digesting merrily. I'm the world's worst worrier; I probably shouldn't have pets but I wouldn't be without any of them :) (You should have seen the state of me when my cats first went outside on their own...) |

that mouse is bigger than the whole snakes coiled up most likly waaay to big. pinkies.
AND YOU'RE NOT A BAD OWNER!! Sorry, but I hate it when people call themselves bad owners for being worried. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's not your fualt if someone told you the wrong size. Don't beat yourself up, as long as the snakes happy and healthy, you're a good owner :D |

Aw thanks mate. I do tend to beat myself up about stuff, but I reckon it's better than not giving a toss ;) |

She survived the night and is curled up under her log on the heat mat. Her bulge is still massive but she's flicking her tongue and moving OK so I'm bringing my worry levels down from 10 to 7.5 ;) Maybe I'll be able to get some sleep tonight instead of lying awake wondering what I've done to my poor snakie! |

Hi. If you think that the Fuzzy/pinky looks a bit large, you can always try rolling it before you give it to your snake. Just place it on a flat surface and roll it back and forth with the palm of your hand to crush it a little. (A bit like you used to do when making plsticine snakes when you were younger lol) |

Glad she has managed it, it does look a little too big so maybe move her down to two pinkies per feed; we asked at the rep shop for some extra small fuzzies as our snake was just being moved up from pinkies, and they gave us some really tiny fuzzies that James could manage!
You could ask to see the smallest fuzzies they have and see how the compare to the width of your snake? |

It's been 10 days since her monster meal so we're going to try two pinkies tonight. They are minute compared to the so-called fuzzy - I really think I got sold the next size up from fuzzy by mistake!
I think she's definitely hungry though; she's been quite skittish and eyeing up my fingers when she's been out the past couple of times ;) |
