Hey, I've seen a couple of people on here giving their snakes a bath. I was thinking about giving Cherry Darling her first proper bath today. What sort of temperature should i make the water? (i dont have a thermometer at the moment as the one i did have has broken and i havent replaced it yet, but roughly what sort of temp should it be? cold, straight from the tap, or luke warm or warm?) Also how deep should i make it?
I know these are proper newb questions but i dont want her first bath to be a traumatic experience for her lol

when i give mine a bath, i give it a shallow ,but warm bath ,enough to cover the snake but i would only do this every now and then just in case the snake gets stressed, prob near the end of a shedd just to help out. my snake has a big enough water bowl so she can have a bath when she wants to anyway.
hope this helps

I had to bathe Bella to get some unshed skin off her tail and she REALLY hated it :( I was hoping she'd love it so she could go for swims now and again but it looks like it's not for her. |

I had to bath sully to help her shed. I make the water luke warm and about 2 inches deep, just enough for her to be able to swim. |

Again, I was caught on this one, don't bathe too often! a corn isn't a sea snake after all Sometimes you can get TOO! caring lol.
Yep, towards the end of a shed if theyr'e having trouble. If a bath doesn't shift it, try let him/her wriggle through a wet towel.

If you do bath your snake, making sure the water is a suitable temperature is vital. I bath Alice with water temp about 25ºC and she quite enjoys it.
If you don't have a thermometer, please remember that your body temperature is 37ºC, so if the water feels warm to you, then it's likely it's > 40ºC.....!!! Far too hot for your snake to comfortably lie in!!
The water should feel slightly cool to you. If it feels even slightly warm, it's too HOT!
Please buy a thermometer, it's not worth taking the risk really, is it?

Just gave mine her first propper bath and she seemed ok with it, as my bath slopes she could go in and out of the shallow water when she wanted, she took about 5 min in, then came out so i put her back. |

completely agrre with all of Bud's point but especially the one above! a member's snake was seriously ill after being bathed in water too cold, it's just as dangerous as being too hot. aim for a temperature the same as the warm end of the viv, 25-30*C, AND CHECK WITH A THERMOMETER! |

Ok guys, thanks for the advice. am off to get a new thermometer tomorrow and won' bathe her until ten. The only reason i was going to give it a try is because she's not poo'd in a while and i read on here that it helps. but i'll wait. thanks |

can i ask what sort of thermometer you all use for the bath. I have tried getting a normal digital thermometer but the range is only between 32-42 degrees which is to high. |
