We jsut got 4 gorgeous fat egg layers
But, we need to know if there are any garden plants which can be toxic to them. So if anyone has any knowledge on the animals, any help/advice would be a great help!
We have a white leghorn, 2 cuckoo...things, cant remember hte name, and a silver... thing. I'll rmemeber hte name eventually , but we only got htme yesterday {:P]
Our zoo is growing :P I'll get some pics in a bit |

Any form of bulb plant i.e daffodils, tulips etc and anything like onions or garlic. Usual poisonous things like foxgloves and ivy.
The list is quite long but this should help: http://wiki.omlet.co.uk/index.php/List_of_plants_that_are_poisonous_or_harmful_to_chickens

Do the silver coloured things have feathers on their feet? if so then they're probably Bantams. Lush eggs off them. Beware though, they'll nibble and eat anything green. And destroy grass, they love scratching at the ground for tasty worms and stuff.
Not sure about Tulips though, although ducks could be different. My ducks ate an entire flower bed of tulips a while back, and all they done was quacked for more.
If they're anything like my ducks they can also be used as garbage disposal as well. Mine LOVE Cornflakes, Weetabix, sliced meats (chicken/ham etc, although it can apparently be bad for them) and their most favourite leftover is Pasta. They go crazy for it. I'll have to get a vid of them at some point to show it. |

I don't think you'd need many hens really, depending on breed. Our ducks lay about 5-6 each per week. They're not as strong flavoured as I remember them to be, but they make fantastic cakes.
In fact the first lay date was due on Lewys birthday, I did say I'd send him an egg. We get double yokers from duckies as well, Yummy. |

same. double yolkers :D each of our hens will produce about 300 a year :D and we have 4... so about 1200 eggs a year lol but yeh I persoanlly only like eggs scrambled, so we've decided when the eggs are big enough we'll give them to our neighbour in exchange for milk (he's a milkman)
it'll be like in the war :D |

I candle all of my eggs, just so I can get all the double yolked ones. No one has figured out how I always seem to get the double yolks. |
