hi guys, just bought a thermostat for the snake.
only problem i have is trying to get the cable for the thermostat probe into the faunarium without leaving a big gap for the snake to squeeze out of?
any ideas? |

Drill/melt a hole in the faun, thread the probe in, then fill it with selant? |

some fauns have a 'push-out' in the lid to thread wires through |

sorted it now thanks :) i ended up snipping one of the little bars on the lid and it went through okay. put some bluetac behind it to cover the gap up.
cheers for your help! |

If it's an exoterra in the corner there should be a hole, I just made that bigger with a pair of pliers to break the mesh stuff. (just for future reference) |

another question about this stat, i've put the probe inside the warm hide. is that right or should it be on the surface of the substrate on the outside of the hide? to be fair, the hide doesn't feel THAT warm. nightmare :\ |

The heat mats are contact heaters. They only heat what is in contact with them. What you need to do is put the probe on top of the substrate right above where the heat mat is.
I'm assuming you have heatmat under part of the faun? What is your substrate and how deep is it? |

yeah the heatmat is under 1/3 of the faun. the probe is above where the heat mat is, but inside the hide.
i'm using beach chippins and it's roughly 2 cm, but i think i need to thin it out a bit. it doesn't feel too bad at the mo, but i am having problems getting the thermometre to read the same as the stat :\ |

you can also tape the prob directly to the heat mat outside the faunarium/RUB and use a digital thermoter and put its probe inside the warm hide to set the required temp. then there is no damage or risk of escape... |

doh, too late for all that.
is it okay to put the probe inside the warm hide, or should it just be on the top of the substrate outside of the warm hide? hmm.. |

i would put mine inside the hide, on the bottom of the RUB cos my corns tend to dig down, move all the substrate and lay on the base. |

okay wicked, it's just ontop of the substrate in the hide cause he doesn't really dig under the warm side, but he does it under the cool side. what have you set your temp on your thermostat to btw out of interest? i have read on the forum that some of the temps are a bit out? |
