I have one of these and I'm finding it rubbish.... has anyone else encountered this or should I send it back rather than getting a replacement?

TBH with any on/off stat you're likely to get a wider fluctuation of temperature than, say, a pulse stat. not sure how much variation in temperature my Habistat matstat produces though as a comparison.

well i had a microclimate stat and mat, got a temperature swing of about the same, you can improve the differential by placing the temperature probe in the middle of the mat with only a small amount of substrate between them might get down to a 4 deg diff i went for a dimming proportional controller now keeps within a half degree easily

No i did mean dimming as in it varies the output in proportion to the required temperature change, clearly would only dim a lamp but the effect is the same with a mat for £30 couldn't go wrong. Dimming stats are a little more versatile since you can use them with any heat source.
