Hi everyone I'm Su and I have a sunglow corn. She is beautiful, but is having a problem with flaky skin at the minute and the tip of her tail is white(ish) Have tried misting her home every day and letting her bathe in warm water, and have now added a damp moss bed for her - she is improving slowly but I was wondering if there is anything else I could do? She is about 18month old now and is my first snake - have had her since she was just a worm!
Cheers for any help/advice
Su

Welcome to the forum ^^

A good thing to do to give her a hand in removing the skin is to use a damp towel and let her crawl through it in your hands.

Hey, welcome to the forum

I agree with Ell, thats what I usualy do. If your concerned then go to the vet or a reptile shop, I'm sure they would help.

Thanks, have been doing that lately, the bath, and she kinda just lies there, she hasnt been to active lately so I'm hoping that the bathing and moss bed will help her. She hasnt shed in a while but last time it was all in bits and since then i have noticed that she has some dry scales along her back. Perhaps I am being overcautious but as a first time owner i kinda stress! She hasnt been like this before so perhaps its just a matter of keeping it quite humid in there for her. Before this she was lying in the cool end of her home and wouldnt go in her hide, I have since got a large shoebox over her heat mat and now she doesnt come out hardly! I have put some pix of her on photobucket, but not sure how to upload them here!
Thanks for your responses

hi su and welcome to the forum, any chance of a close up of the tail as it looks like she might of lost the tip of her tail, which can happen when they get a build up of skin and as ell said a wet towel will do the trick.

This is the best I can do of her tail - it looks like it has a bit of a sore I hadnt noticed this til yesterday, it doesnt seem to bother her, but you can kinda see what I mean about the tip being white?

hi, welcome to the forum.

I am not an expert on corn snakes by a long way, so wont give any advice accept to ask what your set up is like and what temps you have in there?

I know with my royal that when i first got him he spent most of his time in the warm end but he was also not well so its different i guess..

Good luck with her, I hope you get her sorted out, she is lovely..

Thanks wolf, I think she is pretty special too! She is in a 3ft viv with aspen and logs an stuff and although she's not meant to be arboreal she can sometimes be found at the top of the vines in there! My thermometers are buggered and am waiting for new ones but as it is there is a heat mat at one end which now has a big pile of damp moss and a shoebox over it as she has outgrown her hide! The cool end has a couple of logs, and a dish in the middle with water in which she doesnt seem to drink or bathe in, I have a daylight bulb in there too, and woebetide anyone who goes in after the light goes out!

Hi Budaholic, thanks! Really wish I had the space for more - I dont want to have more than one in a viv, especially as Fred as been on her own since I got her. I have got the reptile bug in a big way and am currently saving hard for my next set-up my children are shouting for a bearded dragon but I am torn between that or another snake!

snakes are cheaper than beardies, so that's point one for snakes.

hi Wolfspirit,
no its not on a stat, that was going to be next question on here! At the minute she has a mat that is 11in by 6in, I think maybe I need a bigger one now, also I have a light in there - one of the energy saving ones. It doesnt emit much heat, and having checked temps with a forehead thermometer(its all i have at the mo I stood on the other as I was cleaning tank out!) it seems to be about 20deg C at both ends and I know it should be higher at the warm end. I think I may need to cut back on her feeds at the mo she is on a large mouse 5 days. She just isnt very active at all lately, not even when I get her out. I think I need to rethink the heating and lighting and would be very grateful for help and advice! Also she is in a 3ft vivexotic viv, but there seems to be a lot of space in there so am thinking I may clutter it up for her a bit. She's about 3 an a half ft long, and 4in round her middle. Btw her skin is feeling great now with the moss bed - kinda filled a shoebox with loads of damp moss on her mat - shoe shop think I am mad cos its a new box every few days!
