yesterday my corn got himself stuck on a bit of duct tape. I managed to get it off of him without causing any damage to him, but today ive noticed that one of his eyes looks cloudy compared to the other one. All i can explain it as, is it doesnt look right. It looks dull and lacks it shine and sparkle.
Is there anything i can do or does it sound like he has permanently damaged his eye?
Would a bath help in any way?
I hope i havent hurt him. BTW all duct tape = GONE!!!

i'd give it time. that happened to me on butters first night came home to find her stuck to some duct tape!! i was very careful in removing it but hers scales didn't look right and i was freaking out but told myself to wait until her next shed and then re-assess the damage and after the shed everything was flawless again so wait and see is my advice |

sorry for the delay folks, for an eye problem i'd advise getting it checked out straight away by a specialist reptile/exotic vet. hopefully he's just dislodged the 'spectacle' (scale that covers the eye) but cloudy doesn't sound great......... |

Maybe its not cloudy, thats just how im describing it... sorry.
Its not an obvious thing. you have to look really closely to notice anything might be wrong. but his eye still looks like an eye just not as shiny, and maybe a bit scaly like its lost its shine.
The eye did not pop out but thinking back, i do remember something resembling a "contact lens" coming away, but i cant be 100% sure as I was also panicing about the gaffa stuck to his scales (which i managed to get off without causing any further damage).
Im just praying his eye is ok.
How do i find my nearest reptile vet?
Thanks for all your help

Err too early for a shed there I think. If the last shed was around 3-4 weeks ago then yeah. Look around the side of his face if the scales have come off in white whispy stuff i think hes gonna shed. gonna be awkward if it as a shed it will be loads of pieces of skin instead of one clean. the contact lens thing is probably a protective layer (snakes must have a few and be adapted for stuff like this in the wild he might slither into a lose stick or grass) If it gets worse and doesnt shed in 2 weeks.. i think a visit to the vet is in order. Hope I helped. |

yes you did.. every little bit of advice is a small comfort.
One thing, what makes you say its too early for him to shed?

Last fed day before yesterday (sorry tried quoting but didnt work :p)
seems a tad early as it doesnt take that long for a mouse to shoot through a snake when was last shed? Btw I hate to say this but if it be a bad eye and gets infected.. might lose the eye or worse. |

I wouldn't try and clean it as you could do more harm than good.
It does look like he maybe got it stuck to the tape and damaged it when he pulled free - hopefully he won't have done any lasting damage and will be fine after the next shed, worst case scenario though is he could have been blinded in one eye.
I'd second a visit to the vets, but make sure they know what they are doing before they start trying to remove eyecaps or anything... |
