With you guys recommendations I have today got a bigger tub for my cali "Chequers".
Please can you take a look and tell me if this looks suitable and if i should get anything else.
The only thing I am worried about are the gaps in the lid as i understand corns are the Houdini of snakes. The gaps are about 3mm wide. Is this too wide? if to I could tape them over.
Also are my temp and stat probes positioned correctly? At the moment its showing a stable 81 warm and 71.2 cool ends.
Carl.

I presume he has a water dish? Cant see from your pics.
In a RUB like yours, he may feel a bit vulnerable with clear plastic on all sides. I'd lay a couple of silk plants in there too. My Lila loves tangling around in the stems of the plants in her viv. It will provide more cover too.

I have my stat probe and thermometer probes on top of the substrate under the hides. That way I'm reading the temps exactly where she spends most of her time. |

that's where i put mine too Bud
with regard to gaps - i got a new heatmat last year and could be bothered taking the plug off, threading it through the hole already in the back of the viv and putting the plug back on, so i had the flex coming out the front of the viv. my gravid adult corn managed to squeeze her way through that tiny gap!
any pics of the gap you mentioned in you OP? |

oh and although i shouldnt have, i couldnt resist. I picked him/her (im gonna call him/her "him") to put him in his new tub. I was shi***ng myself because im very new to snakes and when i put my hand in and he lifted his head i though "here goes my hand" but he was fine and i held him for a couple of minutes before putting him in his new house. Should I now leave him alone for a while now like say a week or so so he settles in.
It felt great holding him tho !!!

this is exactly the same tub as i have my corns in i would say that he isnt going to be able to get through the gaps. but mine tried to push there way through the gaps in the tank, untill i ran a strip of masking tape down the length of it, once i did this they didnt try any more.
you might want to put a load of toilet roll tubes in the tank as well as the hides you already have. just gives the little fella more options guaranted he will choose one place, but hay al least he will be happy. |

Hey Chumpy,
the crystal ball must be working as i have just done exactly what you suggested and ran a strip of duct tape along the edge where the cables for the probes run in.
Dont think he will get out now.. hopefully, although from the pic below.. he's having a good look to see if he can LOL

I was considering putting some tape there, but I'm always paranoid of my snake getting it's tongue stuck to the tape, but I know there's no way she can get through those holes, so I don't worry. |
